they are more relaxed, the groove is more swinging,
the modern versions are tense, from moneyspinning 50 thousand big scales gigs

This wins hands down - a total freight train of a perfromance.

Dear, you are underating the Stones in the nineties, in Hyde Park they played out of tune. By the way, every single sideman (apart from Bobby Keys) is a very good musician.[/quote]

Dear, YOU have lowered your expectations, believe me. Take it from a hardened old cynic. smiling bouncing smiley

toronto 2003 is as fast as the barcelona 1990 version - but better.
bremen 1998 is more bluesy and slower, more like the rock´n´roll circus one.

Darling, I have high expectations, but Helioobaas, you are a rock'n'roller, just get into the nineties Stones!

Studio version or 1969 on GYYYO. No Security opener was also great.

I sent a friend a number of live performances from the tours of the song and how it devolved from 1969 to the pathetic by-the-numbers boring version they've been doing since 1989 through 2007 and it was stunning to listen to, between Keith and Mick. The funniest version was 1981 followed by 1975 as well as the 1979 version (New Barbarians).

ANY version other than 78 - 81. Very weak version on these tours.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Rock and Roll Circus...
a tasty bluesy version.

oh, and imho nothing the Stones played in 78 can be classified as weak.
they had sold their souls to devil in 69. makes one wonder what they did 9 years later...

MSG 1969 (as featured in Gimme Shelter) is probably the best! For my money, the last time the Stones performed Jack Flash with any conviction and passion was probably on the 89 tour (the version from the broadcast of Atlantic City 89 ain't too shabby either)..

Nothing beats the studio version, but I like the Tokyo 1990-version...

I could not have said it better myself.

I might add that it would be worthwhile to dump the fenders and can that sound for it as well. (What guitars did they use in 1969?)

I think Keith used a clear-body Dan Armstrong, at least in the Gimme Shelter Jumping Jack Flash. Not sure what Mick Taylor used.

Keith used a black Les Paul for JJF - you will see various pics from the 1969 Tour with people carrying it onto the stage before the show. It's capoed for JJF.
Taylor SG.

You're right. I just rewatched the JJF video & I was wrong. Keith did use the Dan Armstrong for Satisfaction, though.

Greetings from the Jersey Shore.
