I loved the version on the 75 Tour Of The Americas, particularly on the Who Went To Church This Sunday boot. Think it might have been recorded at the LA Forum.

The studio versio ain't bad either.

The live version from Gimme Shelter is supreme for me, mostly because it's live, whereas the one on Ya-Ya's is beyond fixed up and doesn't resemble at all what they were playing in the movie version.

And Mick didn't draw out the chorus like it is on the record, he shortened it (the phrasing). A million times better.

Ya-Ya's is second best, of course, and then the studio version. They've not done a good version of JJF since, well, 1969. It's gotten worse and worse each tour.

I could not have said it better myself.

I might add that it would be worthwhile to dump the fenders and can that sound for it as well. (What guitars did they use in 1969?)

I like the one from the Shine A Light DVD..but the live '69 ones are hard to beat. the SAL one looks and sounds great to me. its great to think about Keith's comments about playing the song--"like riding a tiger"

I'll take Gimme Shelter film any day for that song.

I think Keith used a clear-body Dan Armstrong, at least in the Gimme Shelter Jumping Jack Flash. Not sure what Mick Taylor used.

Greetings from the Jersey Shore.

The 1999 No Security version packed a nice punch.

Any pre-1989 version rocks the best; the back-up singers since then bring it a notch down - sometimes several - for me. I was at the early show of the CNIB benefit show in 1979 in Oshawa. JJF nearly tore the place apart.

To me the 89/90, the Babylon and the No Security versions are the best versions. 99 was great, only the Stones plus Leavell and Jones were impressive, but the Bremen version rocks as hell too! The Barcelona version reminds me of my first Stones concert in 1990.Joyful!

Before the Las Vegas backup singers, before time clickers, before the inflated personnel, before Keef mugging like the spastic village idiot before the cameras, before Ronnie passing out stoned onstage, they played a killer version of JJF at Hyde Park in 1969.

Dear, you are underating the Stones in the nineties, in Hyde Park they played out of tune. By the way, every single sideman (apart from Bobby Keys) is a very good musician.

The Circus version has always been a favorite.
It's just so relaxed and cool.

I remember how sexy those slower opening chords to JJF were on the '69 tour. It was delicious! Still is.

The shine a light version isn't bad at all, but I still prefer the '69 version
