As far as I know, abcko have re-issued the 60s catalog three times.
I have the SACD 2002 re-issues but not the earlier ones.
Are the first two sets of re-masters identicle to each other or do they differ?
I know thay have different packaging but I wondered if the content was the same.

The second reissues have digitally remastered on the covers.

The first reissues include the UK 1st album which hasn't been reissued since.

but do they both contain the same remasters or were they remastered twice for cd before the sacd versions?

The SACD were remastered. My understanding is the early issues were 'sort of' remastered. There used to be a link here about it some where.

it's pretty intense - i ended up skipping down to part four or so to get to the heart of the matter,
and it was fascinating. (the company is ABKCO, by the way, not "ABCKO" - Allen and Betty Klein & Company)

The 2002 versions (except for a couple of songs perhaps - Ruby Tuesday most noteably) are ESSENTIAL and vastly superior to the '86-89 editions, which from all that I've read are not from any original masters at all.

agreed ... now if virgin would kindly reissue the post-ABKCO stuff, using today's remastering technology, i will fork over my life savings!!
