Can you make it from a Gatwick flight that comes in at 9:10 on a Sunday morning to Heathrow in time to get on a 10:25 morning flight, IF all of your luggage is carry-on?

more details later as appropriate,

First of all you don't tell me that you have only carry on luggage, except you have a backpack without anything in it.
The train ride from Gatwick to Heathrow or the other way around is about 30 mintes at least. You must make it through customs and sorry lads UK customs are quite strict compare to the continent. That's fine for me, but it needs time.

No chance, unless you have a helicopter lined up on the runway and special agreement to bypass customs!

The 'MCT' (Minimum Connecting Time) between Heathrow and Gatwick is 3 hours.

I 100% agree.

Bus jourmey is approx 75 minutes but can take a lot longer.

It once took us nearly 5 hours in Aug to transfer between Gatwic and Heathrow via bus they were having a very bad day, most of them chose that day to breakdown and the ones that were coming in were already full.

Missed our connecting flight and had to wait for another one.

I now leave minimum 4 hrs between flights if transferring.

Even if your flight is on time arriving and you take a Taxi at £££ cost you would not make the checkin on time.

Rockingfan there are no direct train to Heathrow from Gatwick.

You go in to London Victoria which takes up to 45minutes then catch another train to Heathrow the Express takes up to 20 minutes and leaves from Paddington so add on time transferring between stations.

OK, thank you all, you have answered my question very well.

Now I must figure out some alternative routings or change plans.

I am trying to get my family to Split on Sunday, Aug 12 and I will meet them there.

Any thoughts? "Who do you think I am, a god damn travel agent?"

If I were you, I'd miss out Heathrow altogether and try to go from somewhere else. Stansted or Luton are possibilities but it depends where you're going.

I reckon it's quicker from my local airport (Southampton) to Heathrow than Gatwich - LHR.

If you say where you're coming from and going to then it'd be easier to advise.

BA have a Flight to Split from Gatwick at 10.50am on the 12th £240+ return.

Even that is pushing your luck as you dont know how long customs will take also if your flight is delayed all will cause problems.

I would also look at other airports in europe to fly in to or are they intending returning to London for the 21st ?.

I like that BA option.

OK, here is the itinerary:

Saturday, August 11, 2007
Northwest Airlines # 1044

Billings (BIL) to Minneapolis St Paul Intl (MSP)
Departure (BIL): August 11, 11:15 AM MDT (morning)
Arrival (MSP): August 11, 2:19 PM CDT (afternoon)
Class: Economy

Saturday, August 11, 2007
Northwest Airlines # 44

Minneapolis St Paul Intl (MSP) to London Gatwick (LGW)
Departure (MSP): August 11, 7:00 PM CDT (evening)
Arrival (LGW): August 12, 9:10 AM BST (morning)

We are trying to get to Split hopefully by late afternoon or early evening.

On August 17, we fly to Paris, and after a few days come to London for Stones Week. Must get to Paris in time to catch a train to Bayeux that same day.

Does this help?

I think this is going fine right here on this thread as people are able to throw ideas back and forth, but if anyone would really prefer: tim_bernardis@hotmail.com.

Thanks.

Give it a minimum of five hours to connect between LGW & LHR.

Wizzair.com flies to Split but only from Luton airport.

that would be a definite no. Miles from each other and even further from each other with traffic!

but maybe better than waiting from 910 until 16:00 at Gatwick for the next flight out (BA at 10:50 is risky, could be cutting it too close).

You will still be on the plane in Gatwic at 9.10am

By the time you pick up your luggage and clear customs ....... 10.15am possibly much later.

Also watch the size and weight of the hand luggage allowance on budget carriers, it can shrink quite a bit and end you up with a hefty bill and even having to check your items in to the hold.

Solved it, but in not the best way.

Just booked the 16:00 flight from Gatwick to Split, that way I am sure there should be no problem catching that plane.

I actually called London and spoke with a BA agent who told me of all the things that could go wrong and convinced me not to take that 10:50 am flight.

Only problem: the Croatia Airlines flight does not get into Split til 22:05, a very long 2 days for my family (I get in on a separate Frequent Flyer flight at 17:40). Oh well, guess it will all work out.

Underrated airport. Close to O2. You'll save a lot of money and time with regards to transport in London

won't help however if you wanna go to beautiful Croatia.....
