Mother Earth

I'm just listening to the phone call interview of Mick with some guy from King Records in Tokyo. I believe they're in the middle of recording Beggar's Banquet at the time.

He asks Mick about a new label their starting called Mother Earth. He mentions that Marianne will probably be the first artist to record on it, and that a record on that label will come out "in a few months" (not sure when the interview took place).

I'm not really familiar with this whole deal - anyone have the story?

Thanks!
CindyC

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

Interesting. I have never heard of it but perhaps someone else on here has. Rockman? vancouver?

Out of curiosity, is the interview from the 1968 Surrey Rehearsals LP? If so, I'll get out my copy & give it a listen.

Greetings from the Jersey Shore.

weird that it took so long to get the RS label up (what was it? 70? 71?)

The way he talks in this interview, it sounds like it's practically a done deal.

Love this one...

Interviewer: "What do you think is the future direction of your music?"

Mick: "Sideways"

In the book The Rolling Stones Chronicles it says...

December 1967

"Rumours report that the Rolling Stones will form their own label 'Mother Earth' to be distributed by Decca. Mick Jagger will supervise and produce all material and Marianne Faithful will be the first artist to sign."

If I remember correctly, back in 1967-1968 the Stones and Beatles were talking about going into a record label together--a record label and a recording studio---- when that fell apart the Beatles launched Apple, and the Stones were going to do Mother Earth....
