Bummer. Nothing to look forward to, then."

But true?

"Midnight Toker" got it right. Shape him up and bring Mr. taylor back. Ronnie could be the on-stage bartender.

-The Stones have been doing their golden oldies shows for at least 30 years now, it's about time they do it properly -time machine or not.

"well, who then? Ronnie seems out of it"

Ronnie!

he's been in far worse states before.

The band aint gonna change. It only will when one of the current members pass on. Thats it.... MT has expressed no wish to return and neither have the stones.

Its all pie in the sky fantasy....

A very logical point made above...that since the setlists contain a large proportion of Taylor-era numbers, Taylor is the most appropriate person to play them.

Rare to see someting new in this discussion.

To those staunch defenders of Ronnie, I have only one question: Why? Can't be his playing. So, other than affection or loyalty, why the hysteria about the very idea of Taylor coming back?

Ronnie's been playing very well of late. Certainly far better than KR after the accident.

RW's a stone, has been for 35 years. Never threatened to quite, never walked out, and treated badly at times.

Thats means something.

Its far too late in the day for the nucleus of the band to change now.

Whatever personal problems Ronnie is having now (or in the past) and musical tastes aside, the man deserves some credit for hanging on for 35 years with these guys, not an easy task.

And probably for saving the Stones around 1986 when he stepped in during the Dirty Work process writing the best part of the album (half of it) and mediating between the Glimmer Twins.

IMHO, that's worth some respect.

If Ronnie deserves credit for "saving" the Stones then he deserves blame for wrecking them musically.

Ronnie is a real STONE and therefore he has to go on tour.
----------

Only he is ill or taking his head under his arms he can miss the tour or some concerts.
-----------------

You got the sun, the moon and the Rolling Stones.
And Ronnie is a Rolling Stone

strange how much the stones have sanitized their image in the last 20 years. dont want to anger the corporate sponsors ya know. even the fans sound like a bunch of old ladies talking over coffee,"oh dear he left his loving wife and then got into a fight with his new bimbo girlfriend and....blah blah blah.the more ridiculous ones are the "keith will want to get rid of him for this, keiths such a gentleman".keith punched anita in the face while she was trying to claw his eyes out back in the 70s,i doubt hes gonna dump his best friend over this crap.ronnie will be on the new record and the tour.if you think differently you are dreaming.they're probably laughing about it and glad a stone is in the papers.theres no such a thing as bad press.if they decided to take taylor with them it would be as a 3rd guitar.

But true?

Only time will tell. But far more likely than Taylor going on tour with them again.

And so, although the idea of Taylor returning is far more exciting than Ronnie remaining (imo and that of many others) I sadly must concur with NickB's other comment:

"MICK TAYLOR IS NOT GOING TO GO ON TOUR WITH THE STONES"

And just to say again how Spot On Tele71 is on all his comments. Doesn't go all silly about 'vibrato'. His reposts (and posits) are simple, direct. no personal axes to grind.

For example the last one:

"If Ronnie deserves credit for "saving" the Stones then he deserves blame for wrecking them musically."

The blame is not all his, though.

e.g. it wasn't his fault that Bill left.

Was it?!

Nor Ron's fault that they took the extended-ensemble ('Vegas') route.

Thank you for this, Four Stone Walls...I did not mean to imply that Ronnie was responsible for ALL that has gone wrong with the band. Far from it. And that would be grossly unfair to him. I was trying to point out that those who credit him for "saving the Stones" during Dirty Work should also hold him accountable for the detriorization of his playing, as well as his poor physical state and unreliability. Guess I could have said that the first time!

I know you weren't implying that at all.

You point was very clear and incisive - i.e. 'they' (Woodites) can't have it both ways.

I came into the Stones when I was 14-15 through Fingerprint File, Hot Stuff. I listened to the classic stuff growing up to that point, but it wasn't until then that I finally got the funk on. Because that's what was out there back then. Ronnie Wood is only as good as he wants to be.
