Regarding Start Me up wonder how many shows since 81 the song not played? few & far between eh? Leave it to Gazza he probably knows without looking it up!

I know they didn't play it on the opening night of the 2002 tour in Boston.The best are the version from the 2005 press conference,1-15-'06,the version from the August Children 1990 cd,and the '81/'82 versions.

It has sounded the same as the studio version ever since 1981... yawn.

Opening Track on Voodoo at Wembley. Unfortunately my wife fainted and had to handled over the top of the crowd to the first aid tent where we were told that many such women, (who didn,t get out much) ended up!

I put her in the stand and returned to the fray.

It's not even a question: Olympia 2003. The version from the 2005 press conference is HIGHLY overrated. Jagger butchered the lyrics almost all the way through. Olympia Four Flicks is the best!

what was it, licks?? a couple years ago at staples center,, the guitars were poppin, actually a high lite along with monkey man, which was incrediable

I beg to differ. I think it sounds quite different from the studio version. and the 81 live version is quite different than how it sounds now.

I remember a fantastic version that was aired on TV : Barcelona ( or Madrid )1998. As part of the audience : Wembley Arena 09/15/03.

START ME UP- opening ROTTERDAM 1st concert 1990. The concrete statium was literally, visuably and feelingly trembling THE STONES came out after 8 years!

Looked a few things up. and it was played on 83 out of 85 shows on 1981-82, every show in 1989-90 and 134 out of 137 Voodoo Lounge shows in 1994-95

It was played on 151 out of 153 shows on BTB/No Security

and 114 out of 117 Licks shows

I might be wrong, but I think the only ABB show where they havent played it was the club show at the Phoenix in toronto. It was also played at Juilliard and the Superbowl

1981/1982 and Still Life from that tour

cant believe how many people think '89 is the best - to me it's the worst. (too damn fast, people!) it's quite obvious that '81 is the best - though i must give an honorable mention the FF version. that's a corker alright!

Also, I have to say Baltimore 06' was a great version. Does anyone else agree with me that the 05 Juliard version is overrated?

I like the Still Life version because the chorus is similar to the studio version. Newer versions Mick says "cry" too fast instead of stretching it out like the studio version. Never did like that.

Start Me Up is a giant opener and the powerful way they did it on the Urban Jungle-tour was awesome. But as far as details and brilliance is concerned; the only live-version I have heard where Jagger made the same twist on the last refrain (I`ll take you places that you´ve never, never seeeeeee-ey-ey-ey-ey-eyn)"as on Tattoo You was at the Stockholm Circus of 2003.
