OT: NME Album Of The Decade revealed
Posted by: Silver Dagger ()
Date: November 17, 2009 12:00

The New Musical Express' top 50 albums of the decade will be revealed in this week's issue.
The BBC today today do a preview of the top 10. [news.bbc.co.uk]

The Strokes makes it to No 1. It's not a bad album in my view but is it that good? I doubt whether Bigger Bang will be there.

My choice would be Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco

mine too.

Ryan Adams' "Heartbreaker" and Arcade Fire's "Funeral" run it close, though.

Outstanding records.

How The White Stripes aren't in the top ten, with either Elephant or Get Behind Me Satan, is anyone's guess.

I'd have to add:

Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Neil Young - Chrome Dreams II
The Raconteurs - Consolers Of The Lonely
and of course the utterly brilliant Black Crowes - Before The Frost

Mind you, Scotland's finest Teenage Fanclub never seem to get mentioned so I'll add Man-Made by them.

It's a joke really. The Strokes may be responsible for starting the new rock fashion, but it's not good at all, and I don't think any of the new rockers have been. Well except for the stuff Jack White have made. That's good. He has the blues in him. Nobody else have had that. Is This It? I had it on cd, and it wasn't it at all. It was sold 2 months later. I had the same with OK Computer in the 90s. Not good at all, and it was made before... And better. It's all just big hype. This decade was an absolute joke in terms of new music. Probably as bad as the 80s. Time will tell, but in what's supposed to be my early years of adulthood, I've found little to no new music worth listening to. And The Libertines suck major balls too. Pete Dohorty is most like the most overrated musician ever to be crapped out the ass of the music industry.

no good songs, no good bands, no good albums.
the last good ones are from late 70s I guess...

no, really. at least mainstream.

good rock nowadays? you gotta be kidding. old bands that are still playing are the best (Neil Young, the Stones)... Pearl Jam and Jack White are okay. other mainstream music that's good? nothing.

Pathetic. Suprised they did not put on the Stone Roses, that so-called greatest band of all time that probably could not sell out a 500 seat venue in the USA

The Strokes changed everything when they burst onto the scene in 2001. They breathed new life into a stale guitar-driven music scene. Not since the highs of Britpop in the mid-1990’s, had a group had quite such an impact. Rock n’ Roll started to matter again. They kicked the doors open for a plethora of great acts. Is This It matters and is one of a handful of records to shape and define my teenage years. Oh, and they were as cool as fu*k, too.

The Strokes released what it probably the most influential album of the past ten years.. completely shaped musical trends for a ten year period.

My choice would be White Stripes - White Blood Cells though. Or Elephant.

5. Oasis - The Importance Of Being Earnest

Err, it's titled The Importantce Of Being Idle: a nice track, but hardly ones of Oasis's finest moments.

Here, here, Ade.

Garth Brookes sells out stadium in the States, does he not? Now that, is real quality!

The Stone Roses debut is a sublime slap of psychedelic 60's-style rock, modern beats and coolness.

Re: OT: NME Album Of The Decade revealed

quite possibly the greatest debut album of all time.

It's certainly up there Ade. The Clash and Sex Pistols also had pretty hot debuts. Of course, The Stones 1st is great as well.

What an awful list.

As others have said, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and white Blood Cells and/or Elephant should be at the top. Radiohead and Arcade Fire too.
