IORR the focus group.

Anyone close to marketing or advertising knows the importance of
understanding how the consumer thinks, their needs and what
move them, among other things. This forum obviously opens a huge
window of information on how "big Stones fans" think and want.

Have you ever felt that what goes on here is being taking into consideration
at all by the Stones...or is their main concern are the 80% of "the other
fans" that just want to hear warhorses, so no need to pay too much attention
to iorr in terms of research?

No idea. But on the off-chance that the Stones or the Stones org read this board, I will continue to voice my wishes, complaints and views.

It is a known fact that the band got hired people that look at the fan boards, so in case an idea they like pops up here or there like a live version of "She Was Hot", they might try it out.
But the people in a band with such a long history in their profession got sharp instincts for what's hot and what's not and they don't need us for that.
Still, at one point, I got the very subjective and diffuse impression that Stonesdoug's Shidoobee were being paid closer attention to by the hired people than this board.

So theoretically, if they played 2 dates at Giant Stadium and announced
the first concert as full warhorses party and the second concert as an especial
event with never before played songs etc, this second date will be a flop in
terms of attendance?

If you look at a bigger bang tour, and what was posted here as far as song requests, the big ones were Sway, Get off my cloud and She was hot.......Halfway throught the tour the start playing them

Good question. I think they would have a hard time filling 2 shows at Giants Stadium under any circumstances. But it would be interesting to see if they tried this indoors at an arena. Whether the rarities night would sell well. I would think it would,if advertised well.Or more importantly, played well.

I like this one, "people in a band with such a long history in their profession got sharp instincts for what's hot and what's not."

So that explains...Keys To Your Love, Stealing My Heart, Streets Of Love, etc.

Ha ha.

I think they look at this board more for copyright infringements than anything else.

I wrote a song last night. It goes..."Brown Sugah, how come ya taste so good". Would that be a copy right infringement? It's not 'exactly' the same now is it.

I haven't seen too much evidence that the Stones Inc. have varied their behavior to accommodate hardcore fans.

who knows? i think there was some thought that Chuck was reading this forum.

maybe (someday) Mick will reference one of these online forums on stage...but I doubt it.

I've been to several Jimmy Buffett shows...and he mentions a website often.
The site..Church of Buffett (Orthodox)....which "worships" more of the '70s era stuff
before Jimmy got a little too clever & commercial. Sort of equivalent to Stones fans
pre & post "Vegas-era" Stones. My point: he listens to fans & their requests (or at least pretends to)

I am sure that the management and Mick Jagger are reading this board from time to time, I assume that Ronnie Wood does it as well. of course this will not be made public.

Its been much debated before but I can assure you that the Stones' legal people DO monitor the various fan sites on a regular basis - generally it's for copyright infringement issues, however.

I can also confirm that feedback has been sought via fansites from sources close to the band re: possible fan favourites being performed - with varying degrees of success. In 2006 and on tours prior to that, they did play stuff like Sway, Moonlight Mile etc based on that - but in 2007 they ended up just totally disregarding it.

attendance wouldn't be affected, only the yawn-per-song ratio of the 98%

So their most loyal fans are not their target. We are no concern for Rolling Stones Inc.as we will buy anything they'll put out and attend all their tours.

So their effort goes into attracting a younger crowd (using opening bands on their tours) and a bunch of other people who know satisfaction and can say the saw
the Stones in concert and have a t-shirt with a tonge to prove it.

In the mean time, they will put out esporadical new albums hoping that one day
another Miss You or Start me up will come out giving them another boost of
popularity among fans that are not really fans.

Strange.

disagree .they started playing the rarities during the 2006 us bang tour because ticket sales were lagging (paint it black was the opener in foxboro sway was played that night also and sweet virginia ,also at giants stadium a couple weeks later they played faraway eyes thats like the holy grail for rarities )the only thing that could beat that for me would be playing dance pt1

Dear Stones, if you're on board here, please check the fantasy thread up at the top.

Thank you.

I am pretty sure that Stones-Forums whereever they are residing getr scanned for copyright reasons as stated already.
To make a Tour big you cannot live on diehard fans as it's just to little to count in each country. However on each tour there are a lot of people who would like to see them at least once. Still the 2007 part of the BiggerBang was perhaps to much to relocate new fans.
If I see ticket prices today of U2 or Bon Jovi I would expect even doubles from the Bigger Bang Tour.
Anyway so far nothing known.

I think Chuck follows the fan sites. He and Mick make up the setlists and I think he pushes for variation. I e-mailed him once asking for a modified set list for their later Soldier Field show and I actually got a response along the lines of, "We'll make it interesting for you, R___." They played Sway, debuted She Was Hot, did Under My Thumb in place of MIss You and also did Get Off My Cloud if memory serves. It was more a matter of mixing it up for the second visit to the market than anything else. Subsequent show went right back to the conventional ABB presentation when they played Europe and elsewhere

The internet has ruined everything as far as tours go. Everyone (almost) knows what to expect. 'Back in the day' nobody cared because nobody knew. We'd get an article in Rolling Stone - 'U2 playing almost all of Achtung Baby on tour, challenging the audience' kind of thing.

As much as I can get bitchy about the Stones set list (and anyone else) being static, it is a tour, they figure the shit out during rehearsals and that's that.

Then you have the band's attitude, or Mick's, that SAYS the audience wants ABC. Whether that's true or not, in touch with what really is going on, is moot. It's just his way of saying I'M going to do what I want...

So a focus group is moot.
