He had a brief three-year professional recording career, but Buddy Holly left
the music world a vast recorded legacy of 203 tracks--all of them on the
limited edition six-CD Hip-O Select box set Not Fade Away/The Complete Studio
Recordings And More.


The tracks range from his earliest recordings to demos with Bob Montgomery;
from his earliest recordings with The Crickets to his first studio recordings
for Decca in Nashville; from the Coral and Brunswick recordings and hits that
made him famous to his heralded apartment tapes. There are six previously
unreleased tracks plus another 11 previously unreleased in the U.S. All of
the original, locatable undubbed recordings and all 57 overdubbed versions
recorded after the "day the music died" are here. Many are hard-to-find or
make their CD debuts.

Looks strangely similar to this 10-cd fan project (look at cd1)

First there was the MCA 6 LP/Cassettes, then came the Vigotone 4(5) disk set, then came the Tex-Mex 7 disk set. Now here's the Purple Chick 10 disk set (version 2).

I'll love it too. Man this guy, what could have been. Such a talented singer and muso and performer but esp songwriter.

Wonder why the Stones and Beatles didn't cover more of his gear esp considering he was such an influence (apparently) on the both of them.
The Stones did "Not fade away" and the Beatles "Words of love". Don't think I've missed any.

and according to the flick The Real Buddy Holly Story, the first recording the proto-Beatles made was That'll Be the Day.
and they did Crying Waiting Hoping for their Decca audition. that stuff's been released by now, hasn't it?

I was meaning officially recorded for a studio album but I did forget Keith's tribute in Texas a few years back and I also forgot the Beatles "That'll be the day" on Anthology 1. But again during their proper recording career I still think "Words of love" for them and "Not fade away" are the only official recorded studio songs.

There are a few:

The Chess Box. 5 LP Set of Recordings from 1955 - 1975

The Complete Chess Studio Recordings of the 50s

The Complete Chess Studio Recordings 1960 - 1969

and there will be a thrid one with the rest of the Chess recordings if the 60s set will sell.

you can get them at your local record shop or amazon or ebay etc. Don´t pay too much, they aren´t rare, except for the first one
