"It's A Gas"

Has anybody heard this phrase in years, except in JJF? It's kinda went the way of "Far Out", "Right On", "Can You Dig It", and "Groovy".

I've used at least three of those in the last week.

Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to add "It's a gas" to my list.

Seriously, I've often wondered if kids who listen to The Beatles "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" think John is singing about a fat chick...

They used that term in the old Disney movie "Robin Hood." The fat friend said it when they were at the camp in the woods.

Have you seen the cartoon,
where a dog is standing on his back-legs, licking his owner in the face?

The owner says "Get Down",
and suddenly the dog grab a guitar, and starts to play.

That was really funny, especially because
lots of people don't get it, only people with a littlebit Stones-knowledge.

We're talking about the same thing, my friend. The propellant in whipits is the same gas some dentists use as an anasthesia. Actually, I was joking about my surprise. I am aware of the brain cell carnage from nitrous...but hey, I wasn't using them all (brain cells) anyway.

Last time I heard that was by the Pistols, I think.
Belsen was a gas^^
that might have made it out of fashion, and rightly so.

ryan, I think the nitrous used in medical applications may be more refined than that used as a propellant for whipped cream, but it's still the same stuff, maybe processed a little differently. The chemical compound is N2O. (that 2 is supposed to be little). It has other weird applications, such as a substitute for oxygen in some race cars and also in municipal waste water treatment facilities. It's still not uncommon to be used in hospitals for anasthetic purposes, not just for dentists. It's slang term is "Laughing Gas."

It's a gas, gas, gas

Laughing gas is worth the trip to the dentist. I had it once when I was a kid and from what I understand I was screaming laughing and the whole packed waiting room was in stitches listening to me. The dentist had to shut it off because he couldn't work on me like that.

Which reminds me further of that scene in that Clouseau movie where he has the laughing gas fill the room.

Heeee heeeee, you pulled the wrong tooth, hehehehehe
heheheheheeee, I'm going to kill you, hehehehehehehehe

I use "far out" and "groovy" in a kind of accented irreverent way so as to draw attention to these expressions; I actually really like doing so and it usually raises an eyebrow or gives rise to a comment like "It's been a long time since I've heard that".

Good one.

actually - here in Caleeefornia - all these words/phrases are very much back in vogue with the kids...we're in our 40-year cycle. The rest of you will be following along shortly as per usual....
