what do you think is the best overall boot around for the modern era stones- i would have to say cleveland 2002- they were just on fire that night like no other and the sound quality was excellent

Probably Atlantic City sound quality-wise. But for me it's the Kuip, Rotterdam, 2nd show, 2003. It was my first Stones show so I'm really glad to have the bootleg.

I also think Cleveland '02 is a tough boot to beat, at least as far as audience sources go. Best audience source and contender for best overall in the modern era: Stuttgart '99. Stunning.

So,I guess the only reason that VGP put out the Get Your Kicks re-release (without the rehearsal bonus tracks) was to try to get people to buy the same thing twice.

I know.It's pretty obvious but,usually a re-release offers at least some kind of minor difference and/or improvement in sound quality.

it's entirely possible the later release was EQ'd or something...but I believe the original taper communicated on this forum once that they were from the same source. In any event, it remains THE best audience source (from a sound-quality standpoint) of a Stones show I've ever heard.

Haven't heard that many from this era, but concerning setlist/performance/atmosphere L'Olympia '95 is very good. Shepherds Bush and Double Door are also fine. I much prefer the club shows, haven't got any fom the Licks tour yet.

all of the theater Licks' shows produced excellent quality recordings. If I had to pick one based on sound alone, I'd probably go with Astoria....

Yes, it is. But it's not an entire show and several of the tracks are officially released by the Stones themselves.

The recent bootleg I listen the most to, is actually "Ultra Rare Live Licks vol. 1". The web-page-live-songs. It's just a compilation, but it got very nice versions of Torn And Frayed, Thru And Thru and Monkey Man, to name a few.
Anyway, it don't get "boring", because it don't include the warhorses. (I love the warhorses while being at a concert, but on CD it's.....you know)

All the ones mentioned are great, but the best has to be Dead Man Cumming, which is a four disc EV set. The venue is misidentified on the boot as Washington or Boston rehearsals, but it is actually the full 28-song rehearsals for the Philly opening show in 1989. These were August 28 and August 29, and are in perfect soundboard quality. Set list is the same for each show:
Start me Up, Bitch, Shattered, Sad Sad Sad, Undercover of the Night, Harlem Shuffle, Miss You, Tumbling Dice, Ruby Tuesday, Play With Fire, Dead Flowers, One Hit (to the body), Mixed Emotions, Honkey Tonk Women, Rock and a Hard Place, Midnight Rambler, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Little Red Rooster, Before They Make Me Run, Happy, Paint it Black, 2000 Lightyears from Home, Sympathy for the Devil, Gimme Shelter, It's Only Rock and Roll, Brown Sugar, Satisfaction, Jumping Jack Flash
