Another one of those weird 'stop it' posts.
But it is kind of a weird thread. If they had waited even longer than we could have had Memory Motel on there too.

It is a classic album.Give me GHS over Exile any day.

Yeah, I think every song on GHS is great, and while Exile is also a great album, it is all over the place and spotty and not every song needed to be included. Would have made a helluva great single album. I know I will get major sh** for this. I also prefer IORR over exile, so I guess there is no accounting for taste.

hey if they waited until today they could have put out just one big album.

Come to think of it, i think we hear it every time they play live...its called Warhorses.

There is no account for taste, but IMO Exile is perfect. And I can not think of any other situation in life where I even use that word. Not a second on Exile is superfluous. Every single cut is tops IMO.
But I think it is really interesting to tlak to someone who sees GHS as the better album. TommyQ, which cuts would you eliminate from Exile? And what makes GHS such an excellent album?
And btw GHS is indeed excellent. Don't need to re-iterate it, but 'Bad-Stones is better than Good-Rest-of the-World'.

On the other hand it could have turned out like this:

Dancing With Mr D
Hide Your Love
Can You Hear The Music
Till The Next Goodbye
Dance Little Sister
If You Really Want To Be My Friend
Short & Curlies

Be glad for what you have.

I grew up with GHS, it was my first Stones album and I wore out the grooves listening to it, every lick is engrained in my mind. I now realize looking at the track list for Exile that I have not listened to it in it's entirety in ages. For some reason I had a semi-negative opinion of it, maybe it was what i was going through at the time of my life when i was listening to it. Now I am going to go out and buy it and really give it another chance, millions of Stones fans can't be wrong.!!! (I only have it on vinyl and my turntable is broken). So maybe I have never had the true Exile experience...thanks, ChelseaDrugstore, now I have a project for the weekend..:-)BTW, as you say, I never thought it was bad, just didn't get this "classic" "best ever" "masterpiece" stuff. Cool, I feel like I am getting a new Stones album this week

All right guys, that's just about enough.

Well at least it's not "off topic."

Okay, carry on, I guess.

By the way, I always liked the saying about my aunt having balls.

The period 73 to 76 is in my opinion awesome. They were so funky and and decadent in that period. Why don't they play more songs from this period in concerts. Crazy mama, hey Negrita, hand of faith and coming down again are just some of the songs I dream of being heard in a concert today

Aren't there some good songs (heard on boots) that were left off of GHS? I think "Criss Cross" (Save Me) was meant for GHS. That song ROCKS IMO. How about any others on boot only? "Through the Lonely Nights" could have fit- has that WAh WAh sound. "Silver Train" needed to be re-recorded to sound a bit more powerful and raw (like the Johnny Winters version). A bit more work would have put GHS in that classic group (Banquet to Exile).Plus a dif. cover would have helped. Close but no cigar....
