All of the tracks are there only because they used some leftovers and wanted to get them out. Otherwise it would be a much shorter album.

Or in other words : If Exile would have 12 instead 18 tracks,it would have been much shorter.

Sharp-as-a-knife-conclusion,skip,haha.

Way back somewhere Jagger said that Exile double-vinyl was best heard as
4 seperate sides/albums but since CD that way of hearing Exile has been lost....

But if ya first copped it on vinyl then it still lingers with ya even on a CD listen...

I agree with Terry --- EOMS is four discrete sides, meant to be heard in that context.

Exile is not my all-time favourite. My choice would probably be Let It Bleed, on which there is nothing that could remotely be considered sub-par.

I think it's safe to say that most diehard fans' favourite will be in the top 4 however.

i Know, somebody will disagree! Its a great album --for sure. but---where is a song like "Midnight Rambler" Or "Sympathie"?.. Casino boogie--"turd on the run--i just seen his face---soul survivour--are "fillers" --I mentioned "Beggars" and "Bleed"-but what i like most is "Aftermath" and "out of our heads".

Please. Midnight Rambler isn't even the best song on Let It Bleed

Tumbling Dice and Happy are pretty well-known songs

Shortfatfanny, I was making fun of the previous comment! However, take off the Sticky Fingers recorded/finished tracks and it IS a shorter album.

Yeah and each side would always take one into a different journey. The best.

I really love 'just want to see his face.'

Some say it is filler, maybe, but it has tremendous presence, mood, feel, rhythm.

When it pops up on Exile, I feel like we suddenly take a detour through some Louisiana Bayou fever swamp.

It's cool.

I don't know.... I guess I just dont get it.... While Exile is certainly not terrible it is not some kind of masterpiece either (at least to my ears). I like at least 10 Stones albums way better. There is no comparison between a true masterpiece like "Let it Bleed" vs. Exile which contains a lot of filler and is very bloated.

I also think there are (few) fillers in Exile.
It is a very strange album to my taste : some of their best songs, some of their worst songs...

I have heard one time an old blue song (I don't remember who sings this, but it is a famous bluesman) which is exactly similar to "Hip Shake"...

The best of the best (from the beginning until the end, with no weakness) being "Sticky Fingers" for me....

but I recognize that the best songs of "Exile" are among the best of the bests.

AW Come On , Come On .

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion but you must be listening to the LP backwards .

"Loving Cup" gets a thumbs down ?

The charm and greatness of Exile is the flow of the music .

This is one of those cases where arguments are useless. Either you get it, or you don't. Exile has no bad songs; it doesn't even really have songs. It's a trip; at one point you might be bopping to "Turd on the Run", or singing along to "Shine a Light", but you're always in that green barroom staring into the jukebox.

See, just 6 thumbs up out of 18, and 2,44 points

see this is where it gets very subjective...
For instance, Torn & Frayed, Loving Cup, Casino Boogie, Let It Loose and Soul Survivor are some of the highlights of this album IMO....yet you have given them all thumbs-down.

each to their own.

as I have said earlier...it's consistently a very good album, one that you can listen to all the way thru.

When I first heard Exile, I thought it sounded flat and not at all like previous albums, my fave being LIB. In fact I thought, this is pretty weak. But after buying the CD, my original view changed. It has a wider range of styles than previous albums and although the mixing is a bit suspect, most of the tracks rock in their own subtle ways.

Anyone who does'nt like Loving Cup is just living on the wrong planet. Absolutely nothing wrong with that one. I even like the SAL version with Jack White that most people hate.
