"Get down
Oh get down.
.."
From: [www.timeisonourside.com]

Same supposition reached in the track thread from years ago, but I remain unconvinced.
[iorr.org]

Sounds like " oh hit me".. or similar to me.
Listened to several of the different versions, but this alt take posted in the earlier thread has the opening whispering the clearest imo.

An excerpt from this book (w a crappy title) reads- "Dancing with Mr. D" "started the album with Keith's devilish, repeating guitar riff as
Mick droned a chanting lyric about possession and fear"
[books.google.com]

Tough to say.. but doesn't sound like a "Get Down" in there at all to me.

'You dirty!

Oh you dirty!'

or

'your daddy!'

Either way it sounds like he's slurring right into your ear in some sweaty club on this new mix.

There two things: first a clear "get down," then a harder to decipher that sounds like it might be "you're dirty."

Charlie is God.

And I don't think he means Watts.

Since Mr D is death, maybe he’s saying your dead?

This thread is just like the one where we were trying to figure out what he says at the beginning of "Jumpin' Jack Flash."

My ears for this are hearing:

Get Down
Oh get down

Guess it'll have to be left to the imagination to what he's saying.

Should groove on the instrumental.
Can't see any stones fan not lovin' this tbh. Haunting.

Keith on acoustic and bass, your boy Taylor on slide and bass, Charlie of course, Hopkins and Stu, and Bobby.
And perhaps best of all for you, no Mick winking smiley and no silly love son.. er.. dancing with death lyrics.

I've always loved this tune, but was echoing what one of the recent reviewers wrote:

" Although there are are only five years between them, it's as far removed from "Sympathy for the Devil" as one can get.
Where "Sympathy" is set in an atmosphere that projects horrifying evil and violence through a nihilistic sneer,
lyrically, the campy Mr D. could sound right at home on a spooky songs for Halloween compilation..."

Maybe that's what Mick is saying..."shhh....Happy Halloween...oh yeah"

I prefer the girly "ahhh eye popping smiley" and the Mick "hey hey smoking smiley" on STRAY CAT BLUES

"we know it's a bit late but we hope you don't mind if we stay"

Re: What is Mick whispering at beginning of Dancin w/ Mr D?

The second thing sounds like "I'll tell you" (Right before "Down in the grave yard").

I think I clearly hear "I got it" for the first line, but on another You tube version I think I clearly hear "I did it".

I can't make out the second line, but the last part sounds like "on your grave".

"make up your mind, 'cause I gotta go"

I've always heard it as...

"I tell ya, oh he'll tell ya"

It's remarkable how our ears tell us different things smiling smiley

You hear "on your grave" in the new mix?

I better have a few more listens..

I agree. It doesn't seems "Get down...oh, get down" or "on your grave"

I think the "hey hey" is actually a laughter/chuckle. And isn't that "yeah, got some tail" after Mick's chuckle?

i like the track alot but i never understood, and its still a miracle to me, why they chose it as an opener. hearbreaker would have been alot stronger (as an opener).
