this is a reaction to Mickijageroo's thread, isn't it?

Any particular reason why you're sharing your deep thoughts on Taylor in this sophisticated way?

just stating a fact, what has he done since 74 that is great? what contribution has he made? To me he has been worthless since he left the stones.

Maybe not much since 74, but he's left us some great performances with the Stones and the Mayall, hasn't he? It's sad that his carreer has been going downhill since 74, but to say he's a 'friggin' joke'? That's just nonsense.

He made his contribution. Play an old boot and listen. Mickijaggeroo's sample is boring, Taylor without the Stones sounds dull. Technically ok, but a bit boring. But that's ok with me, he's allready made his contribution. No need to slag him.

How blasphemous to say that!!!! The records he did with Mayall are great acid-laden blues rock. Just check out the two best: diary of a band vol 1 and vol 2 (live in europe for the usa pressings). I like to think "The Train" as a precursor to "Machine Gun" by the Band of Gypsies. The way the guitar is played so quickly up and down in that scratch type manner is brilliant.

With that said, the man deserves more respect than a simple comment that underscores a simple mind at work. "Leather Jackets" was a heck of a lot better than ER. Only "Tattoo You" was a better album.

In fact he's still in the Pretty Things to this day. Great group!
(I recently downloaded some documentary about him, called "My friend Mick Jagger", where he talks about the Stones early days)

Taylor ain't down the drain. He's a very good guitarist. But his career has become a joke after he left the Stones. But HE ain't no joke surely.

Ket if you intentionally tried to start up a storm with your statement then
you have succeeded.
MT is still a class guitar player who left the Stones in a life and death situation in 1974 (he saved his)
This was a real act of bravery ie to give up your livelyhood and status playing with the Stones to go down another avenue with no guarentees and the end of it.
Yes he has not have achieved the stardom that he gave up by leaving the Stones but man Mick Taylor is still one awesome guitar player.

I saw him last year with John Mayall and he was playing brilliant, i saw Ronnie Wood in 2003 and wish Mick would give him a few lessons .

Anybody knows me or seen my posts these past 3 or 4 years knows I'm a big Ron Wood fan, from way before he joined the Stones (Faces, Beck Group, Birds), but I don't think Mick T deserves to be dismissed anymore than RW does - Brian, Mick T, & Ron are all Rolling Stones, & each of them brought unique talents & very different personalities to the RS. What they all have in common is a major struggle w/ addictions & a clear, eventual marginalization within the Stones...hmmm. What did frustrate me about MT's post Stones work is he never found a really strong context, i.e. a great band worthy of his talents as a guitarist, stong collaborators with (especially) good songwriting (and singing) abilities. There have been a few fine moments - the "Real Live" Dylan, Carla Olsson "Too Hot for Snakes," guest spots w/ Joe Henry, a couple tracks per solo album, etc.

Anyone who thinks Mick Taylor was a joke after leaving the Stones should get hold of a copy of Dylans Real Live it has some of Taylors best ever work its worth buying for Highway 61 alone.

His collaboration with Bob Dylan on the "real live" tour was the high point for me... if you haven't listened to the recordings from that tour, then you're just talking out of your ass.

Mick Taylor is not a joke, he's a bloke.

It's on..... a stong left hook by the MT fans, the RW fans repond with a straight right, It looks like it could be anyone's fight....Mt is a better player, RW was (and is) a true Stone......less filling!, great taste!, less filling......

LOL, yeah I guess that it is about the sum of it. The thing is to me that if the stones were retired now then I would be completely cool with the BJ vs MT vs RW cmparisons and debate but it just really pisses me off that so much of this board is still spouting off about a guy who lets face it has really been a nobody for 30 plus years, The stones are on tour now! They have an album out now, whatever you think good or bad it is much more intresting to talk about the current stones. Yes I know I can choose to ignore the Taylorite posts but I choose to challenge them because they only think of the past stones and not the present.

We're thinking of the present, and how the stones would not be what they are today if not for the past, and it's about time they acknowledge that. Much more appropriate to pay a tribute to their founder Brian Jones at a concert, or to have MT & BW guest, than to do a tribute to Ray Charles (more past for you!). The stones are as popular as they are today because of their legacy.
