It all depends on the amp. If you have the same model amp as Keith, with the same tubes and everything setup the way he does, those settings should get you there. If not, those settings don't mean shyte because every amp is different.

I am assuming Topical means to imply same settings on same type amp.
I have read that many folks here who play a little use Keith's settings.
But I don't think I have ever seen a post by someone who goes: "Holy Sh8T! I got it; I sound just like him!" In other words, IMO the amp settings mean so little.

Settings change night to night, venue to venue. Leaving it set doesn't mean you get the same sound. How Keith sets his amps? It's just that - only for that show. They can more or less have a similar setting but are probably never EXACTLY the same.

FWIW: I met Chuch McGee (spelling?), Wood's guitar/amp tech once.
Nice guy, very friendly.
I asked him about Wood's settings on the Mesa he used.
He gave me the biggest bunch of bull I've ever heard (and I knew it).
Instead of sounding like Some Girls,ER, or Undercover, it was more like
Van Halen's first album.

The loudest I ever heard Keith was right in the front row and in front of him on the last night at Earl's Ct 1976 and his amp must have been turned up to 11.

Did Keith use the same amps throughout US 72,winter 73 and Europe 73?

Keith's guitar's sound very different to me between '72 and '73. There is even a substanial difference between shows on the 1972 tour.

73 seems a lot heavier and chunchier to me

It's quite useless to ponder about the settings when the amp,the guitars, the aera or time and the venue isn't mentioned.
in '72 - '73 he was playing Ampegs SVT's they don't even have reverb.

here's a pic of Keiths settings (probably Licks tour), but hey it might have been changed right at the next moment. and.... he has four of those amps on stage plus a small Oahu (ABB tour)

Same comments. Completely depends on the amp, location, guitar. So, pretty much useless in my opinion.

I don't know where those settings came from, but tonally it is all wrong. None of his amps have a "gain" for example. The concept is there in that his tone is a boosted mid and somewhat highs, but the bass is quite low in his tone. The picture above is of his amp and I've tried that. I actually use a setting of my own that is somewhat similar and it definitely is in the right ballpark. Tone is a tricky thing, amp settings have some play in it, but it is the player that sets the tone.
