Warner would not close down Rhino if they were still profitable...It is a sad sign that even a label which is releasing great quality stuff obviously cannot be run on profitable basis anymore.

I just recieved Mojo 192 in the mail, not read any of it yet but did notice an Ad for The Rod Stewart Sessions 1971-1998 on Rhino.
There is a revue in the magazine somewhere but not had a chance to read it yet, if this news is true what will happen to new releases such as this, there must be some rational explanation , as things like this must take some planning and research.
If the lable has gone it will be a real shame , makes you wonder if lables like it will ever se the light of day again.
found this link for the Rod Stewart [www.play.com]
Ad for Stephen Stills on same page in Mojo
link from Play.com [www.play.com]
There was also a mention of Manassas Pieces, but can't find a link to it.
All on Rhino

If you're suggesting that the new Rhino box is incomplete without those tracks, know that it is a collection of unreleased outtakes.
Most of those songs can be found on the "Storyteller" box set...but that's 20 years old now.
Does anyone here have 4-CD Everly Brothers box that Rhino released in the 90's? Great package that covers all the labels they recorded for.
Some of their seldom-heard material done in the mid-60's with Dave Hassinger has a real "Aftermath" feel to it.

i wuz director of press and publicy deparment at Rhino when it was a Very newish company...no more than a dozen of us, including execs, art dept. promo dept. shipping dept. etc...we were all in a building on Olympic Blvd. in Santa Monica...back in the eighties...while i was there we went from an indie to a company with hits and international major distrubtion...the savvy, and cool and humane owners were Richard Foos and Harold Bronson, but they sold the enterprise years ago...
we put out so much good stuff...kudos to Gary Stewart the A&R guy back then...
met a zillion peeps, did a lot of tv w artist etc...such a magic vibe when just a few people riding this miracle...rip

so is anything released on rhino records going to be taken out of print? also the doors and the grateful dead signed long term contracts with rhino records so wouldn't warner bros risk a lawsuit if they tried to back out of these contracts?
