I've been reading all Altamont related lit for many a year, including the gold standard from messes Stanley Booth. Long ago I gave up on "the girl in the white crocheted dress" that of the weeping blond Ms Patricia Breddehopt as unavailable, no way, wont speak, move on to the next, and then bang! There she's is below....

The death of Meredith Hunter at Altamont
...provide security for the free concert at Altamont Raceway & Arena in California...the young black man who got killed at Altamont. That was all. In most accounts his...people scattered over the 83 acres of Altamont during the concert, but only one had...

Was this her first and only interview??

Hey, you clowns need to do a little research before you pop off.

The Angels didn't like the fact that a Black man was "with" a Blonde girl.

They picked a fight with him, multiple Angels jumped him and yes he did a stupid
act and pulled out his "unloaded" gun. He had never dealt with Hells Angels
before and it cost him his life. Angels at fault here not Meredith...

Ok, so a man pulls a gun on you (not knowing its loaded or not) and you don't retaliate?

The Angels were rednecks to begin with, they clearly were picking on him because he was with a white woman, his only mistake was he did not take a couple of Angels with him.

There's enough blame to go around (Stones included)........but he was killed
because he was waving the gun around.

Not sure why MH always gets the benefit of the doubt.....none of you know what
was said or done by either side. And there was some saying he was pointing at the stage.

"he who shoots first" doesn't really apply no? the gun wielding lunatic was taken out by a hells angel armed only with a knife.a gutsy move i'm sure anyone would agree.its reality 2009 style, you're still a victim no matter what you did because the other guy was a "racist"

And the way I remember seeing it, Hunter's arm was fully extended by the time the Angel came in the film's frame.

Cool username, Lem. Us southern boys know who ya are:

Oh yeah, IMHO, plenty of blame including Stones, but most to violent, high "Angels" and a very foolish (to pull a gun) Hunter.

What would have been the fallout if Jagger had been murdered? Ya talk about conspiracy theories!

yeh..those would look good in a "white crocheted dress".

re: MH

I gave my opinion a few posts up.

for those that sympathize w/MH because he was a black man with a white woman...
in 1969 San Francisco ..at a rock festival...I'm sure there were several dozen (if not more)
mixed-race couples that the Hells Angels did not mess with. MH had a gun...that was the difference.

i always found it odd that the airplane and grateful dead passed all the blame to the stones when jerry garcia gave the advice to hire the angels

I'm new to this board....are you-all joking, or is there some white supremisist stuff going on?

This discussion is kinda creeping me out. I'm not sure I can hang with this.

To say it mildly, I think this thread deserves "OT". This is not Stones-related but sharing personal opinions of the rights to kill someone or not, and under what kind of circumstances. Disgusting.

.

don't come here with that b.s. ...had meredith hunter been a white guy waving a gun around at
a Stones concert, the results (& this discussion) would be similar if not identical.

whether you like it or not the Hells Angels were there to protect your favorite band.
had they not acted...who knows what would have happened.

and whether the gun was loaded or not is irrelevant in that situation....HE PULLED A GUN
at a music festival of 300,000 people.

I remember reading an earlier quote from Hunter's girlfriend saying that they had been smoking meth all day and her constant praising of Mick Jagger had caused Hunter to pull the gun and run at the stage in a jealous rage, with her trying to restrain him.

It was this quote that had always lent credence to the idea that he was going to take a pop at Jagger, but in this story her take seems to be very different - it makes me wonder whether that original 'quote' was in fact BS...

Still, regardless of anyone's views here on race relations then or now, trying to climb on stage with a gun in your waistband is not a cool move, and waving it around in front of a bunch of bikers is even dumber - despite the ugliness of the situation, self-defence seems a reasonable conclusion...

I was wondering how came Jagger was never afraid while being on stage .
It would have been easy in the "early "days to reach the stage and try to injured or wounded him .Even now ,bags aren't always searched .

The way he has to run all over the stage certainly proceed from the stadiums 'size but it might also be a way to protect himself .
