OT: Hoople shows at Hammy
Posted by: Roadster32 ()
Date: September 11, 2009 18:08

Well, only three weeks to go.

Who's going to which show? (I'll be there for the first three).

Are there any plan of meetings before the show? When and where?

Hope to see some of you.

Any idea how many of the original Mott line up are appearing at these shows?

I'm going the Friday night. Original line up, with additional drummer ( yer man from the pretenders) Buffin's health isn't great.

I'll be going Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Would certainly up for a drink before if anyone has any suggestions ?

I'm not familiar with the area 'round the venue, so I'm depending on any suggestions.

I was at a rotten restaurant in Crouch End on 16/2/96 & The Pretenders's drummer was lunching w/three small children. We kept looking at each other. I knew his face from somewhere & I knew it was popular music but no way was I gonna go up to him in front of children and start harrassing him. He was hot. If the kids hadn't been there I would've taken some seriously scorching memories back to Seattle the next day.

The Pretenders drummer's name is Martin Chambers.

Should be great gigs. When I go to London I have stayed in Hammersmith for years based on old and continuing friendships since the early 90's. Some good pubs around there, and close by the venue if you are still fit enough to walk. I miss the Thames and good pints south of Hammmersmith bridge.

Probably the nearest boozer is the Metro II in Hammersmith tube station and basically over the road from Hammy Apollo. I hope to be in there before hand but need to check if there's a support act or not to get timings. They do some nice ales, and it's quite lively.

Gemma Ray on Friday is worth seeing. I saw her recently with Jeff Beck - Jeff actually played with her band. She gives Amy Winehouse a good run for her money. Very 50s style early rock'n'roll.

Listened to the "Mott" album this morning, such a great and in many ways underrated band, wish i could go to these shows.

Hello,

I'm in for both Friday and Saturday...looking forward hugely to it!

If anyone can use a top-notch spare single for Friday in row 7 of the circle then all you have to do is make a reasonable donation to either (or both):

the Air Ambulance or Help for Heroes.

Can't say fairer...

By the way,if anyone sees Four Stone Walls, can you gently remind them of this,please...

Cheers,

Si.

I agree Beelyboy! this is truly momentous. One of the 70's most underated bands imo. Will be very interested to see the set list and hear about the show. Ian has a new disc out as well. It got a good write up in MOJO. I didn't realized he adopted the US as his new home.

Hi NP,

Will do,although my memory is a little misty from The Pilot Inn way back in August 2007!

I'll probably greet several unsuspecting Mott punters before I get it right,hah-hah!

Getting pretty excited about the weekend already...

Cheers,

Si.

I once saw Queen as the support band to Mott The Hoople back in 1974 at the Liverpool Boxing Stadium!

Needless to say, it was a fantastic gig all round.
