Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you want the mono version of
Paperback Writer/Rain you have to buy the mono box set (over $100) to get it?
The Past Maters reissue (whatever it's called now) isn't in mono?

I got the mono box set... the Past Masters that's in it doesn't feature Old Brown Shoe or Across The Universe, only all mono "masters". However, a separate mono release of Past Masters includes those songs...

Ha Ha, the mono-box is already sold-out in Scandinavia. It hurts me to tell that nothing beats the sound of an old Mono-vinyl-EP plaeyd on a record-player driven by batteries.

out of my head
I didnt mean on one disc. Same album title package and two discs. One stereo and one mono. I dont like those combined discs either. Would be convenient. But I also agree that the mono box set is a cool collectors item.

Why do you need two discs with only 28 minutes of music on each disc? Mono and stereo on the same disc would have been the way to go. Tracks 1-14 would be the album in stereo; tracks 15-28 would be the album in mono. What's the problem with that?

Stereo box set includes Past Masters with all the singles in stereo (also sold separately) while the mono box includes Mono Masters, similar to Past Masters except it's in mono.

Which begs the question, If Beatles singles were mixed for mono AND stereo, were they RELEASED in BOTH mono AND stereo? Did people go into the record store and say "I'll take Hey Jude, and give me the mono, please?" Or were they just issued in mono, with the stereo mixes being kept in the valuts for possible use on some future greatest hits album?

Will compact discs even exist by then? Heard someone on the radio yesterday saying that these might be the very last CDs some people ever buy. I think he might be right about that ....

I had been listening to the Mono and stereo Re-masteres since the weekend and was most impressed. Picked up the Mono Box today and WOW. lets put the stereo Vs Mono debate and the marketing issues aside for a moment. Has any other band achieved what these guys did in a measly 7 years. SEVEN FECKIN YEARS.

Its easy to take for granted what the did, a blsiterin comet across our musical and cultural universe that is still leaving its mark.

I know some people don't like the beatles, but i suspect that they are lying.

If, as some predict, 9-9-9 is the day that the world ends, then they'll be the last CDs that ANYONE ever buys!

They actually recorded between 63-69. Today that might be enough time to complete 2 albums. They made...13 in that time period? And no real clunkers at that!

I think you'll find that the first entered EMI studios in late 62.

'Please Please Me' was recorded in a little under 10 hours.......for 'Sergeant Pepper' on the other hand, they spent around 129 days in Abbey Road.

In my opinion, if Brian Wilson had released Smile in '67, it would have eclipsed anything The Beatles were doing.

Ok, just listening to a selection of albums from the mono boxset. They are sounding wonderful!! The clarity is fantastic. On Sgt. Pepper at the moment and there is so much that is now audible in the mix, guitar licks, backing vocals etc..

Has been a very expensive day but it's worth it!!

Didn't John Lennon have a thing about the number 9? Now there's 3 of them! eye popping smiley

9 x 3 = 27
2 + 7 = 9

*waits for something bad to happen*

You got the Sun, You got the Moon,
and you've got
The Rolling Stones

People are going so crazy over this stuff.McCartney should have waited and toured after this stuff was released....And if they weren't broke before, they would be now.

I'm gonna have to buy these one or two at a time, so which ones first? I'm leaning towards "Sgt Pepper" and "Revolver" to start with. Is the stereo "Revolver" the full UK edition, including "Dr Robert" and "I'm Only Sleeping"?

Wonderul stuff!

Everything seems louder, richer and so much warmer than the 1987 releases and I'm hearing things on these albums that I never dreamt were on the originals.

It's Only Love from the Help album is amazing.

ALl are UK editions as these are considered "the proper" versions, and so they are.
The Monos are only available if you buy the Mono box. Only the stereos are available as individual albums.

I'm playing the stereo Please Please Me album and losing my mind! I bought both boxes and already satisfied on the first CD. Please do something like this Rolling Stones!
