"Sony Music Entertainment and Experience Hendrix L.L.C. have agreed to a monumental catalog licensing deal to set the stage for a worldwide campaign to make all of Jimi's extraordinary music, including classics, never before heard archive recordings, and filmed concerts available through every type of media.

Legacy Recordings, Sony's catalog music division, will issue definitive deluxe editions of the classics released during Jimi's all too brief career including GRAMMYr Hall Of Fame Inductees "Are You Experienced", "Axis: Bold As Love", "Electric Ladyland" and (outside the US) "Band of Gypsys." In addition, Legacy will also release those posthumous compilations produced by Experience Hendrix during its stewardship. Each title will also be available through major Digital Service Providers."

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought Jimi was planning a comeback tour. Now that would be breaking news.

Ain't it great how a few all too short years of spectacular talent have turned into deal after deal after deal?

Sony has been losing money for some time, now they really want to cash in - it is a shame...

bullshit...what a bullshit!!!

record companies are, like any other companies, simply there for "cashing in". there is nothing wrong with it. they offer the goods, and you decide if you buy them. or not.

Not a shame. Great stuff for fans like me. Love it.

Nothing wrong with releasing deluxe versions, boots, boxes and various extras. But it's getting silly when they're doing the same thing all over every time they renew the contract. Experience Hendrix / Reprise / UMG already did an excellent job the last time around. (If we only could get that with the Stones, for once.)

Breaking news? Jimi is quitting the Stones?

So what this says is it does not bode well for Stones fans to get something more than just the same ol' reissues. At least Sony is going to give Hendrix fans something more - a lot more.

Maybe the Stones should have signed with Sony.

Among the stuff we will get from Sony is the Royal Albert Hall '69 release on DVD and possibly CD, the Dagger label second offering of Band of Gypsys Baggy's Rehearsals material to go with the core studio albums box set. Plus, down the line, we should be getting Miami Pop '68 on DVD. Back around 2000, there was going to be a 4-CD Winterland '68 box set that never materialized.
For those of you who don't know, the Dagger label is the official bootleg label of Experience Hendrix. It's great stuff.

I remember there was a rumour of a Band Of Gypsys box of all the Fillmore East shows which nver materialised (officially). There was an unofficial release of Winterland about 3 years ago. All the shows (with 3 songs from a boot to complete one show because the master tape was missing).
