This from Associated Press:
Guitar legend Les Paul dies at age 94
(AP) – 5 minutes ago

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, died on Thursday. He was 94.

According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.

As an inventor, Paul helped bring about the rise of rock 'n' roll and multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and then carefully balance the "tracks" in the finished recording.

A sad loss, but a good innings.
RIP Les and thanks for your great guitars and music.

Helter only covers the LA celebs who die. That market is a bit slow at the moment.
But seriously. RIP Les Paul. Even a non-guitar player like myself can appreciate his impact on rock & roll.

Ah man, very sorry to hear that and at the same time he had a great set of innings and contributed so much to the world of music. Much more than most and a true giant in the music business. Anyone who has ever picked up a solid body electric, recorded with multitrack and used effects owes him a huge thanks. God bless you Les and thanks so much for all you did!

RIP and a big thank-you to the great innovator. What a legacy he leaves.

Hope Keith is inspired to pick up one of his LPs or LP Juniors and spend some quality time.

RIP Les. I got to see Les play on his 90th birthday at the Iridium. He was awesome. Half way through his set, someone whispered to him. His eyes light up, and he says 'Ladies and gentleman, the great Jimmy Page is going to join us!' The person whispers to him again. 'Oh, it's Timmy Page'. He was so disappointed.

Gonna go crank up my Black Beauty.

A colleague of mine used to live right next door to Les Paul in Mahwah, NJ. I had an offer to go to Iridium one Monday night in 2002 but I had a prior engagement so I passed. Mick Taylor showed up that night & was very friendly with Les & my friend. Oh, the things I miss!

RIP Les Paul. I have to email my friend about this...

I visited the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville in 1979 and they had on display Les' original "log guitar":

Although the one I saw didn't have the rest of the body with it, just the log.
Unfortunately, taking photos was forbidden and I couldn't find a postcard of it.
Never forget that this man invented the solid body electric guitar!

A friend was in a pub in Oxford with some colleagues when the subject of the influence of home areas. People started naming hometown music heroes and when it came to my friend they asked him from whence he came. He answered, "Wisconsin," which brought a snort and a huff. "what musical influence did Wisconsin ever have?" My friend replied, "Les Paul." He didn't have to buy another drink that evening. RIP, wizard.
