Your first disapointment of a Rolling Stones-record
Posted by: Havo ()
Date: August 10, 2009 21:59

WEll, I grew up with their songs, was 13,when they did "Satisfaction". from 1964-1966--I like their stuff, first little Dissapointment was "Between the buttons"-after their masterpiece "Aftermath"
No discussion, which are their best albums and singles---The first time --if you really not satisfied with a stones-song--I would like to hear

under the boardwalk---down by the sea

I agree with Between the Buttons. Didn't like the front photo or back cover doodles, nor many of the songs. Next disapointment was Dirty Work.....very thin sounding to me.

I like Between the Buttons a lot more now than I did when it was released, but it was a bit of a bring down back then. Also, after the brilliant Exile, Goat's Head Soup did not compare.

Bridges To Babylon was the first stones record that was really disapointing. Although there are some great songs on it (How Can I Stop stands out), the album was a major letdown for me...

I actually heard the album,It's Only Rock'N'Roll, beforeBetween the Buttons, believe it or not. The opening track, If You Can't Rock Me, sounded like a band trying to sound like the Stones - perhaps it was!

It was the first time the Stones, to my ears, had done a rock (as opposed to rock 'n' roll) song despite the album's title.

Also, the single is hardly their greatest. I'm not slagging off the whole album but it was the beginning of the end of a fantastic period of creativity which includes the underrated Goats Head Soup.

Live Licks and Shine a Light were the first for me. While others are better or worse than some, these are the two records that I simply don't go back to at all.

I was excited by every release and enjoyed then in varying fashion for a spell. For example, Steel Wheels was exciting as it came out two days after the tour started, yet I hardly play it at all now. But I wasn't disappointed.

LL and SAL, I don't think I ever paid attention to them like I have every other release.

I like 'Between the Buttons'. I think 'Dirty Work' was the first bad album but not as bad as their latest one...... can't even remember what it was called but they havn't made another.

I really didn't like Undercover.
Too many electronic drums and sounds that were not Rolling Stones.

I like it more now, but still cant stand all the electronica on great songs like Feel On Baby.

Re-record Undercover!!!

Angie

the worst part was the way people would fatuously assume you were one of THOSE -
those gooey "Angie fans" who didn't actually dig the Stones, just Angie.
in fact a lot of people still go around assuming that every female Stones fan's favourite number must be Angie

[turning up Bitch way way loud :E ]

ps: i should have added, as i normally do, that in the meantime i have forgiven the Stones for Angie.
and the experience taught me the very useful fact that there is absolutely no value in being disappointed with 'em.

they are the Rolling Stones :E

Emotional Rescue. Not the follow up to Some Girls I was hoping for at the time, however now I fully enjoy the album. So it's all good.

My childhood memories (10 years old) started good with Rewind and More Hot Rocks. The big disappointment began with Dirty Work. Sound was too thin and the guitars were too noisy.

Undercover without a doubt!

Why did they recorded a song like
"Too much Blood", where's the good old blues and rock'n'roll on this track?
This song is in my Top Most Hated 5

I would have to say Emotional Rescue the song and the album. Some great songs on there like She's So Cold, Down in a hole, All about you, Dance, Let me Go but the rest wasn't up to past Stones stuff for me at least.

There were songs on IORR that were really that great, maybe the was my first real disappointment in anything the stones did up to that point.

I've never been disappointed on initial listens to Stones albums but honestly, Voodoo Lounge didn't stand the test of time. Lyrically, it stinks & the rockers just stopped doing it for me. Some say I'm a sycophant but I just love the Stones.

Actually, Exile.

It was one of those things where it was supposed to be the greatest album Evahhh, and on first listen I thought, really?

I'm not hearing it.

Sounds pretty confused, dark, and muddied.

That was the first listen.

The last seventeen thousand listens, however, have been much improved.

On the internet nobody knows
