Jerry Garcia...14 years gone

Fourteen years today the Captain succumbed to a life of "Drugs and the unwanted pressure of being the flag bearer for the hippie generation". Miss him and his music. God Bless Captain Trips! He's gone...and nothin's gonna bring him back!

If you want to see and hear him plyaing, have a look at the DVD: The Last Traffic Jam (Traffic Reunion 1994) where he joins the stage for a song - but be warned, he was almost gone at that time...

The Living Dead. Nobody forced him to do anything. He was a burnt out wreck when he died. He made Brian Jones look like Lance Armstrong.

Lets talk about the Dead!

Am I the only person in the world who loves the first 5 albums till "Live Dead" and thinks the rest (except for 2 songs on Wake of the flood) is total garbage?

Another overated junkie that people put on a pedestal for some unknown reason. And that noodley guitar playing they did in concert. Ugh! The worst.

"Workingman's Dead" & "American Beauty" are their only decent records.

HEILOOBAS

You sound very sure of yourself, have you heard the first 3 studio albums?, they have sixties limitations on the sound, but they are fantastic records, especially Anthem of the Suns attempt to integrate studio and live sound, at that time they were a very daring experimental band. I would guess you are old hippie who only digs acoustic music?

I think boogies comments are way too harsh, Jerry Garcia was a very interesting player, drugs dug his artistic grave as well as the real one, but to reject his music so offhand is unfair.

That part could apply to our own Keith Richard.

Ugh! The worst.

That could also apply to the Stones guitar section (minus the guy of late on acoustic in the corner with the back up singers, minus MT too)a lot of the time.

Still I love the Stones, and Jerry, and The Edge. . ..

deadegad,

Is your name a chord progression? Or a tribute to the Dead? Something else entirely?

BTW, I'm not much of a Dead fan, but don't feel the need to low rate Jerry. I know lotsa big Deadheads and they're at least as passionate as us.

You are the man Jerry! We miss you.

FYI: before you rip the Dead and Jerry, they have always showed great respect towards the Stones and their music. Jerry was a big fan of the Stones; he loved covering the Stones in concert. The same can be said for the suriving members of the Dead. Bob Weir and Phil are huge Stones fans and have nothing but great things to say about the Stones.

I saw the Dead at the LA Forum in May and they rocked the place with Satisfaction! Jerry would have been proud.

It's always sad when gifted musicians/singers leave too soon. Wish Garcia, Hendrix, Jones, Joplin, Morrison etc could have controlled their excesses (demons?).

It's so very lonely, you're 2,000 Light Years from home

Never a fan of the music, but I've met so many nice deadheads, and can't knock the traveling all over the place as one big family.

i remember the day well. jerry's legacy lives on....i'm just back from two days of Phish shows at the Gorge...and I was pleasantly (and alarmingly) suprised by the age of the average Phish fan...seems to be in the mid-20's now...whereas it was much older than that before their breakup 6 years ago....bodes well for the future indeed...
