WHEN WILL THIS HAPPEN, OR WAS IT JUST A RUMOR

That wouldn't be fair, would it, passing Keith.

knighthoods were announced on NY Eve

The "rumour" was complete bullshit

I don't think Charlie will get it. Yes he is an original Stone but he didn't write any of the music and Charlie is hardly one to make himself stand out as a rock star. Maybe they should give it to Bill since his great accomplishment is allegedly having sex with so many women over the years.

In my opinion, Charlie deserves a Knighthood over Jagger & Keith!!! Those two
Penny-pinching bastards don't give a shit about friends or people..

A few years back Nicky Hopkins (pianist who played & recorded for years with the
Stones) ran up a huge medical bill, then passed away,he had no insurance and
left his bill for his wife, word was passed around to their circle of friends.

Charlie was the only Stone who stepped forward, personally scratched a check
for over a $100K and paid the "entire" amount. - now that's deserving of a
"Knighthood" - MLC

Thank you for that post,MCDDTLC. How did you find out about this? I'm glad and not at all surprised to read this about Charlie. Makes one admire him even more.

I agree, Charlie deserves it but he hardly needs it.

In my book he's always been a class act and MCDDTLC proves it once more.

I also think Charlie will be the one to receive one next. Keith does not want it and who would give it to him with that kind of attitude.

Perhaps we should just take to calling Mr. Watts SIR CHARLIE and hope the palace catches on.

D. Richardson - Would feel a little funny about blurting out the name, it was
someone in the industry who has worked/recorded with one of the Stones (past or present).. I trust this person enought to repeat it.

Would hate to hear that because of something I repeated, this person might
catch hell from Jagger/Richards & company as I think they wouldn't appreciate
this subject if ever brought up to them - MLC

Re: CHARLIES KNIGHTHOOD?

good point MLC, thanks for sharing the story. to be fair though, haven't there been similar examples of Keith, and/or MJ, helping others, behind the scenes? didn't Keith help Etta James financially?

Re: CHARLIES KNIGHTHOOD?

DR - Only thing I heard of Keith doing was help Chuck Berry's old Piano Player,
can't remember his name (Johnny Johnson I think?)
but Keith heard he was driving a bus and helped him out financially so he could
get back to playin, he's on Eric Clapton's 24 Nights Video (Blues night)

He has a interesting story, back-when it was "his" band (Chuck Berry's)
then Chuck came on board and took over...

(remember Brian Jones the founder of the Rolling Stones)...

To me Nicky Hopkins was alot closer to the guys that Etta or J. Johnson,
and with the hundreds of millions in the bank, (Jagger/Richards)
that doesn't sit well with me to let Charlie pick up the tab on his much
smaller financial income - I wonder if they ever re-imbursted him?? MLC

yeah, you'd think they would have come through for Nicky Hopkins. Sad.
I've got a Johnnie Johnson album Keith's on, singing "Key to the Highway".

in my mind charlie certainly does deserve it, more than the others, for doing the impossible : combining classy modern man and cool rock superstar image

his cool face will shine through eventually, and for some reason or another longer than the others,

just my imagination bs&gs

If I'm not mistaken there was a newspaper story
about this early in the new year. Ringo Starr
was also named. I hope they get it.

No he did not get nominated but for a consolation prize, he get's to be a pirate along with Keith in the next Johnny Depp film!

davido

the newspaper 'story' wasnt a story at all. It was idle speculation on which 'celebrities' might be next for a knighthood.

None of them did...

I doubt Charlie ever will anyway. Every rock/pop star in the UK who has been knighted has NOT got the award for services to music, but to charity (McCartney, Elton, Cliff Richard). The exception was Jagger, who is hardly known for his charity work but who got it after Blair & co gave in to some subtle lobbying from him.

Its not like these things get given out like confetti to some elder statesman of music every year. The chances of another member of the Stones being offered would be somewhat remote. Roger Daltrey got an OBE (I think) for his charity work in the New years honours list. Clapton got a higher award (CBE) for his contributions as well (not sure if that was last month or the year before)

If any member (past or present) of the band deserves some kind of honour for his charity work, it's probably Bill Wyman. The only thing that's probably prevented it from happening by now is the fact he's probably best known to the general public for having sex with an under-age girl.

The Stones have all helped out people privately, Etta James is one Keith did indeed help out when she was in failing health & addicted to heroin - she thanked him in an interview (this is about 20 + years ago) & she of course was later involved in the Chuck B film/concert.
