the newspaper 'story' wasnt a story at all. It was idle speculation on which 'celebrities' might be next for a knighthood.
None of them did...
I doubt Charlie ever will anyway. Every rock/pop star in the UK who has been knighted has NOT got the award for services to music, but to charity (McCartney, Elton, Cliff Richard). The exception was Jagger, who is hardly known for his charity work but who got it after Blair & co gave in to some subtle lobbying from him.
Its not like these things get given out like confetti to some elder statesman of music every year. The chances of another member of the Stones being offered would be somewhat remote. Roger Daltrey got an OBE (I think) for his charity work in the New years honours list. Clapton got a higher award (CBE) for his contributions as well (not sure if that was last month or the year before)
If any member (past or present) of the band deserves some kind of honour for his charity work, it's probably Bill Wyman. The only thing that's probably prevented it from happening by now is the fact he's probably best known to the general public for having sex with an under-age girl.
