I'm 53.

Didn't count my shows but been to every tour since 1970. Essen been my first gig.

Over the years I saw them very often. But what is a great show?

The Stones have to play good of course but even more important seem to be the personal impressions and experiences!

I have very good memories of some 76 gigs and Vienna and one of the three 73 Essen shows were good.
Great feelings when thinking back to 90' Rotterdam and Köln gigs.
Other good ones on 97 Babylon tour, in 99 and last good concerts (to me) on the 2003 Licks tour!

Uuuhh, - and forgot: 95 had some great gigs too! With Amsterdam club show leading the way . . !

I'm not sure that they do have to play brilliant, actually - so I agree with what you say about personal impressions and experiences. I've been to several shows down the years which when caught up in the moment of the concert experience I thought were absolutely great but which dont hold up to repeated listening when I hear a recording of it.

Madrid 2007 being an example. I had a great time at that gig in the middle of what was one of the best Stones audiences I've ever been in, and enjoyed the show immensely, even though it was quite apparent that there were a few songs where Keith appeared to be on a different planet to the rest of the band. It just didnt seem to matter that much.

I agree with you Gazza! I have seen 36 shows since 1972, seen every tour since the '72 show in Boston. It amazes me how some folks regard shows that I was at and thought were incredible, only to find it was poorly reviewed or the bootleg version sounds like crap! Case in point, one of my best shows ever, Buffalo, August 8, 1975. As you know, I was in the front row and thought it was a piece of HEAVEN from start to finish. It seems some people think the band was drunk and sloppy on this night...go figure!

I know a guy on stonestreff who is from the former east germany and did not see them til 90 but has seen them more than 100 times, but 23 is pretty amazing too in such a short time span.

Yeah, I meant it like that!

Although as a musician I always TRY to see it from the musical side first, - we all get affected by our surroundings, etc. . .

I wasnt at Brixton. See my list above.

The only two theatre shows I was at were Shepherds Bush '99 and Astoria '03. They'd both be in the top 3 or 4, but Wembley Arena 2003 was simply the best performance of the lot.

The fact that a show is more intimate doesnt on its own make it necessarily the be show. Both were great, but parts of the show werent altogether enjoyable experiences due to too many w@nkers on the floor causing a crush. I had 9th row seats for that Wembley show, so that helped. It was close enough to be a theatre show I suppose.

You remember better than me!!

Wasnt much between the 2 o2 shows (or even the 2 Twickenham shows for that matter).

Dont get me wrong. I thought the 3rd o2 show was a good enough show by its own standards. They played fine. I just think that after publicly acknowledging the fact that so many fans had seen so many shows and had made the effort to see the final show, plus the fact that theyd had 2 days off, they could have made the effort to throw a few crumbs our way. I think they'd had a party to celebrate the end of the tour the day before - it just seemed that in their eyes, the tour was already over and they wanted to go home.
