It's Steve Cropper of Booker T and the M.G.'s who co-wrote the song with Otis.

If you're not familiar with Steve Cropper, you should definitely check the Sevilla Expo 92 Guitar Legends DVD.
Here's a little taste of what that blistering night in Sevilla was about:

Steve Cropper wasting time ??? just go listen to the guitar break on Green Onions. One of the best gigs I've ever seen was Booker T and the MGs backing Neil Young.

Aside from co writing Dock Of The Bay with Otis, he co-wrote a lot of other classics as well.

He tells a great story about Otis's great version of Satisfaction. after introducing Otis to the song and working up their version Otis was convinced they had co written it. Steve had to explain it was by some kids from London.

Steve Cropper is totally the man. I noticed, although he wasn't credited on the dvd, that he played in the "house band" at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festival in 2004. Maybe in '07 too but I'm not sure. I am sure about '04 though.

Steve Cropper is in the Blues Brothers movie along with Donald 'Duck' Dunn, the bassist for Booker T & the MGs and bassist on all the Stax stuff (except Green Onions! )

they both were in the touring band too

"Soul Man" is originally by Sam & Dave

We should all bow in the general direction of Mr Cropper. One of the all time greats. You should check out the Otis Redding DVD as well as the Stax Volt review dvd from Norway 1967 done with a huge all star lineup. Booker T and the MG's were the house band. These dvd's will blow you away. Music played with passion.

I mean , if people don`t know anything about music history or musicians and their influence , like Steve Cropper in this case , whose style he created is copied by so many guitar players(including Stones), I mean can`t they just shut up or think twice before writing stupid comments on this board? Sometimes it really hurts...

IMHO, Steve Cropper is right up there with Keith.

Cropper has a super nice, just right touch on the guitar - never overplaying, just working for the sake of the song.

Agree that Cropper shares that quality with Keith and other great ones...
