OT Neil Young at Hyde Park

On paper maybe not the most exciting set list, but Neil ROCKED yet again, great band and Ben Keith played with Hank WIlliams, now thats history.

" A Day In The Life " could only have been bettered if Macca himself turned up, joined in and turned on.

it sounds bloody fantastic! Ben Keith is one of the sweetest musos on the planet, he is ever so modest. I interviewed him for local tv just three weeks ago, he told me Neil is busy with new material:

(for some bizarre reason the sound does not correspond with the image, does anyone have a solution???)

Thanks for the interview!

Did you upload the video yourself?
I'm thinking the audio/video must be synched before uploading to YT. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

a great, great show, at Hyde Park yesterday....
Neil was in blistering form, and an appearance by that old sod Macca,
was the cherry on the cake.

Fleet Foxes, The Pretenders, Seasick Steve, etc, provided excellent
undercard support.

Hi Adrian,

No doubting it,NY is on top-form,and that clip still gives goosebumps...what an un-earthly sound he gets...wow!

Cheers,

Si.

"Old Ben Keith" played with Hank Williams? No wonder Neil likes to have him around...

who's the youngish looking drummer?

Neil's looking righteous with the unkempt hair.

Too bad we didn't locate each other, Adrian but a great show - originally I was happy just to be sitting in the park with a cold beer or two outside the concert area and enjoying the festival atmosphere. Loads of people having picnics, sitting around with a bottle of wine, dogs running around, the Old Bill posing for photos, everyone grooving to the music.....and then a couple came past me saying 'hey, do you want our wrist bands? One of them is broken though'!
Having carefully squeezed the intact wristband on.....I was in!

Anyway, as I was saying, a great show - never having seen NY before, I loved the combination of acoustic and electric tracks which made up a fine set. His voice really doesn't seem to have changed much over the decades. Just glad I was 'ready for the country'......or ready for Hyde Park at least.

Great that you made it in, MOWAT, for such an accomplished set.
Sorry to have missed you - next time.

Was it my imagination or did Down By The River go on for about 25 mins? It was truly epic and psychedelic.

Judging from my own experience (Cologne) and various posts concerning the recent dates, Down By The River seems to be a definite highlight of the recent tour, if not THE highlight. That's why one guy called the recording from Cologne "Down By The River Rhine", I guess.

16-17 minutes according to my watch. It was definitely a highlight.

Thought it was an amazing performance by Neil, and even better than the show I saw him do in Dublin six days earlier. He changed about six songs which were probably a bit more crowd-friendly and it worked out really well.

Almost pooped when Macca ran onstage at the half way point of 'A Day In The Life' to sing the part of the song that he wrote.

which is ironic, as i was finishing taking a shit, when i heard his dulcet tones, hiked up my y-fronts, and caught him from the back of the arena.

well, Id seen Neil do it in Dublin and on boots from last year so I was familiar with it. Its not totally unlike the Beatles arrangement really.
