In a pub discussion last night the general consensus was that the Stones have made no really outstanding albums since Tattoo You. Whether you agree or not they've definitely put together enough tracks to make at least one killer album.
It be interesting to see what tracks fellow IORR's rate as the best since 81. Remember only 15 songs and not including material from Tattoo You.

15 songs in almost 30 years, this is even less productivity than this band from Dartford generated... I'll probably will give my list later but what came into my mind - and might have been done already - were the never-released-Stones-albums made out of Primitve Cool/Talk Is Cheap and She's The Boss/Dirty Work (which is dominated by Keith).

That idea would make a great separate thread - to make the best Stones album out of all the solo tracks since 81...or perhaps just solo tracks period. Great idea.

It's impossible to get a killer album from the post 1981 output because there aren't any flashes of brilliance from the later period, just mediocrity. Some songs may be a little more palatable than others, perhaps, but they're all essentially lacking. I suppose Undercover Of The Night and Too Much Blood aren't bad, and One Hit To The Body starts well before it ends up slipping into mediocrity. Out Of Tears hints a little at the Stones former greatness, i suppose. I think a number of Keith's songs, although not brilliant hint at a little more relaxed charm without Jagger's forced vitality which tends to blunt things considerably. You Don't Have To Mean It and Slipping Away aren't bad (but are hardly great).

That's rubbish ... Albums are parts of the times when they were released. So, it's complete rubbish to "collect" songs to one album, except it's a "Greatest Hits" album ...
