1975 Tour of the Americas
Posted by: StonesFanatic ()

I'm really not a fan of the Stones during the Ron Wood years so my Stones bootlegs stop with the 1973 European tour. However I like the IORR album (Mick T's last) and am curious about the '75 tour since the setlists comprise of all pre-Wood material. How was this tour? Can someone recommend it to me before I go ahead and snag some '75 boots? And which '75 boots are best in terms of both sound and performance? I am assuming the Millard tapes (I have all of his Zeppelin shows from '75 and '77 and they're awesome!)

<<How was this tour?>>

Basically it was quite uneven, I think. Yet the best shows were as good as anything they did before

You're quite right about the Millard thing, and the Los Angeles July 9 and July 13 shows are probably the best way to get acquainted with TOTA

You'll likely be able to find those shows for download in the Hot Stuff section...

I found the LA shows and the Buffalo and Detroit SBDs...would those be good ones to get? As I said I don't like the Wood-era material so this tour would be the last I'd be truly interested in...how's his playing compared to Mick T's?

The Buffalo sbd portion; yes. Detroit is pretty bad imo

Obviously Ronnie played very different than Taylor, but I don't want to instigate yet another round of these vs arguments, so I'm not gonna answer that one...

Detroit is bad performance-wise?

Well this seems pretty good...since I like all of these songs. Ronnie is pretty bad (at least on these songs) when compared to Mick T...for instance, the solos in YCAGWYW are pretty crap compared to Mick T's smoking ones...he's not terrible but he's not *great*, ya know?

OK then I think I'll just grab the LA shows and Buffalo and maybe NYC (the ones with Clapton and Santana)...

How about the San Francsico shows...any good? I saw Seattle is supposed to be good too, soundwise and performance-wise...and how about the 3 Boston shows?

Seattle is among the essential TOTA shows imo. Boston #1 is up there as well. The second one is pretty good [They only did two shows in Boston]. Been ages since I listened to either SF shows

Yes, we've talked about that tour a lot recently. I have nothing to say here that I didn't already say, except that one pretty good show that doesn't get mentioned as much as some others is Toronto June 17.

Concerning Urban Steel's post, that is one great version of Gimme Shelter. Ron Wood is on fire. Great Tour and Memories.

San Francisco boots are good quality, the second from July 16th a little better than the July 15th show. Then again, there are about 3 or 4 different masterings of each show and also there is The Complete Cow Palace Tapes which includes both.

I should be able to tell u more about the 16th show, but I was so out of my mind as it was the first time I ever got high and I was VERY high to the point where I could not follow or understand what people were saying to me. hashish oil lacing the pot i think.

But the memories I do have was of a good show, just tempered with regret and remorse for me after what I did to myself after having waited for ages (4 years) to see them. But hell, I was only 18 and just out of high school the month before.

Listening to the Cobo Hall SBD...good show. Ronnie Wood actually plays some damn good guitar during If You Can't Rock Me (current song I'm listening to)...but GodDAMN the @#$%& synth Preston noodles with through the '75 shows is DREADFUL!!! Especially during the Gimme Shelter intro.

I'd skip all 75 and head straight to 78 and Handsome Girls

If you need or want a laugh, I would think anything from this tour would suffice, including Love You Live.

It's hilarious.

But there are some good tunes.

"I'd skip all 75 and head straight to 78 and Handsome Girls"
and you'd miss a lot of fun...

StonesFanatic you can also try, after the Millard feasts, the early shows : Baton Rouge, the 1st NY (1975 06 22), Toronto.

I have 3 of the NY shows (6/22, 6/25, 6/27) and Toronto...don't have Baton Rouge or July 10 in LA (have the other 3 Millard shows from LA)...are they available here?

Does anyone here have Baton Rouge or the July 10 Millard show?
