When he wrote Gimme Shelter.
When he sang for da queen.
When he started Wentworth Primary School in 1951, where Jagger went. [members.tripod.com]
When he started chatted about rock & other rootsy music with Jagger in 1961.
When he sat by the radio & listened.
When he hung out with Gus Dupree.
When he pushed oevr and over for new Stones activities thruout the 80s.

His guitar break on SFTD was the first thing that entered my head. I know there's talk that it wasn't Keith but it has to be him, doesn't it?
Also the rhythm on Rip This Joint is absolute dynamite.

I think he did his most impressive stuff when he was the "lone" guitarist, around 1968-69. The lead in Sympathy, the fingerpickin' in Prodigal Son, all the slide guitars on the Let It Bleed album, the innovative semi-acoustic sounds of Beggars Banquet, etc. His best live playing was in 1969-70.

He had tons of brilliant moments that defined his style on Sticky Fingers and Exile, but it was already by that time getting "easier" and "lazier", addled by Mick Taylor and heroin.

Good call. Also, Munich mentioned "Whip It Up". What about solo stuff? I also like WIU, and the rhythm lead at the end of "It Means A Lot".

"No Anchovies, Please"

Thats a hard one....Shelter, Definitely ranks---Sympathy (2) solo from Altamont...any Chuck Berry solo from 69-72, and of course, all of his playing on SFM from Ya Yas.

Well, that's Blue Lena, good friend of Keith's kids as well as Keith's friend.

My number 1 is with no doubt "Gimme shelter"
Maybe the finest moment of all.
For the rock'n'roll spirit
i always liked ;
Before they make me run
She's so cold
and
Little T&A
I also like very much the feeling in "Slipping away"

"...and his cool boots"

And don't forget his rubber-soled shoes that kept him from being killed in Sacto.

**And, hopefully it will be this Tuesday eve @ the Knitting Fact in NYC smileys with beer

I don't mean to be a jerk, but this is a dumb thread. Ya know? What, you're supposed to encapsulate your favorite musical moments of a musicians career who you've loved for 40+ years? C'mon! Get more specific, and it'll be more interesting!

"Oh. His rhythm guitar on Brown Suger".

Fascinating.

Opening chords of Brown Sugar.
Solo on Sympathy For The Devil.
His licks on Sparks Will Fly.
First part of Can't You Hear Me Knocking.
Opening chords on Rough Justice.
The weird bridge on Rocks Off.
The riff on Flip The Switch.
The riff on Satisfaction.
The riff on Start Me Up.
This Place Is Empty.

There are more than a few moments but what immediately comes to mind is practically all of Get Yer Ya Yas Out and his playing on Let It Rock from Leeds in '71. I can hear these ad infinitum and I'm knocked out every time.

1986, Chuck Berry Birthday Concert, His solo during "Little Queenie". FANTASTIC PERFECT SOLO, AN EXACT SONIC MESSAGE THAT DEFINES KEITHS STYLE.

Australia 73 (en fuego all the time, Rocks Off is a gas)
Leeds 70 (Let It Rock)
Fool to Cry Europe 76 (probably his best solo-ing)

This is a good one. I think that is one of those moments Keith has practised and waited for all of his adult life, starting from those Little boy Blue and The Blues Boys tapes, continuing in YA-YA's, etc. There is so much Keith Richards invested in that particular solo.
