I couldn't care less about 2012. A 50th anniversary tour is the sort of thing Cliff Richard does. Do we want the Stones to fall into that category?

I think they will tour in January 2010 and keep going with the final show at the London Olympics in 2012, with Bill Wyman.

Yes.

But i think a more intriguing question is:

Do you want the stones to tour again?

No.

Maybe the new album will be mastered to sound like the 'remasters'...

Fair point - sure they marked their 40th anniversary with a disc entitled 40 LIcks but the tour was actually called simply "Licks" - especialy as they played more than 40 different songs!

However, a 50th anniversary tour would smack of cliff-ness

After this long in the business, I'd say the Stones can do whatever floats their collective boat. Tour, not tour, record, not record....at this point they've earned it.

Who said it was ok? It was a crummy excuse for a tour concept - even though the tour itself was very good.

Considering how little fresh material theyve recorded since then, a 50th anniversary tour would simply be a bad joke.

Like some old married couple that doesn't get along too well and never spends any time together suddenly deciding to have a big 50th wedding anniversary party.

It's a marriage of convenience, you see.

It is my understanding from Nashville scuttlebutt that Charlie agreed to do the Bigger Bang tour on the condition that this would be the absolute last world tour. I'm not discounting that they may play special dates here and there. But another world tour? Very doubtful from what I've heard.

For the sake of their legacy, I hope not.

For the sake of are they The Rolling Stones? I hope so.

For the sake of the songs and way things have been played lately? I hope not.

For the sake of being able to say 'We toured again'? No. They're TRULY only doing it for the money now. A 50th anniversary tour - regardless of new material - would be way more blatant than Licks - although it would give them the excuse to release a 3 disc hits comp with more of the same songs ha ha ha ha....

Really, the best thing they can do now is:
a new record
select cities short (small) tour for new record
release a thorough comp of B-sides, finished outtakes and remixes
1972 live album
1974 live album and covers album that IORR originally started out as
Reissue Still Life as a double album
Reissue Stripped with MORE songs goddammit...
Reissue Time Waits For No One, just because....
issue box set of studio leftovers that are in any shape...

Of course, the problem with doing this with UMG is that they will all sound like shit...

They're certainly planning on touring in 2010.

Well that's what you told us about 2008 as well :-)

That's my belief too. Although I think Mick will not be able to resist the Olympics with or without the Stones.

care to show me where?

Extended tour plans have been scuppered before - Asia in 1996 and the planned extension of the Licks tour into spring 2004, for example. People change their minds. There were tentative plans to tour at some point later this year, but they eventually decided otherwise. There was never any plans that I'm aware of to tour in 2008.

They've already done on 2002 with their 40 years thing.
it was embarassing , i think a 2012 tour would be like watching a Muppets show hahahaha.
Nah , Forget about it , 2007 at the O2 was the last show.

No soap operas.

I mean, no awful ballads.

Er, no awful songs.

Goddamn. I'm running out of - what more is there to say other than Rain Falls Down and Streets Of Love? A bad version on some awful TV awards show and, well, the soap opera.

the band has 2 guitar players who are either drunk/stoned or simply cannot function...I think they will Tour and it will be a joke. I wish the band would accept the fact that they are terrible these days...instead of thinking of the $$$

Get the Atlantic City CD's from the fall of 2006. Get the Saitama DVD from earlier that year .... far from " terrible ".

Will they ever tour again? That's not up to them. It's up to "The Rolling Stones", and you don't mess that easily with "The Rolling Stones".
