Blinded By Rainbows
(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards)

Windmill Lane Recording Studios, Dublin, Ireland,
November 3 - December 11, 1993 and Don Was’ Private Studio &
A&M Recording Studios, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, US,
January 15 - April 23, 1994

Mick Jagger - lead vocals, electric guitar
Keith Richards - acoustic guitar, harmony vocals
Charlie Watts - drums
Ron Wood - electric guitar
Darryl Jones - bass
Benmont Tench - keyboards
Lenny Castro - percussion

Did you ever feel the pain, that He felt upon the cross
Did you ever feel the knife, tearing flesh that's oh so soft
Did you ever touch the night, did you ever count the cost
Do you hide away the fear, put down paradise as lost

Yeah, you're blinded by rainbows, watching the wind blow, blinded by rainbows
Do you dream at night, do you sleep at night, I doubt it

Did you ever feel the blast, as the Semtex bomb goes off
Do you ever hear the screams, as the limbs are all torn off
Did you ever kiss the child, who just saw his father shot
Do you ever shed a tear, as the war drags on and on

Do you ever touch the night, or is it just another job
Do you fear the final hours, put down paradise as lost

Yeah, you're blinded by rainbows and faces in windows, blinded by rainbows
Do you dream at night, do you sleep at night, I doubt it, yeah

Do you ever fear the night, could it be the war is lost
Do you fear the final hours, do you kneel before the cross

You're blinded by rainbows and watching the wind blow, blinded by rainbows
Do you dream at night, do you scream at night
Do you smell the fear, is your conscience clear
Are you caked in sweat, are your clothes all wet
Do you see the light, is the end in sight
See the face of Christ, enter paradise, I doubt it

Produced by Don Was & The Glimmer Twins

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Voodoo Lounge” 2LP
(Virgin Records V 2750) UK, July 11, 1994

A weak moment in Stones history, imo.

i can´t agree with DandelionPowderman - it is only a "A weak moment in Stones history"when you consider almost all of the modern stones or mick jagger solo ballads weak. for me it´s a typical modern stones ballad - nothing less, nothing more!

Wonder why they didn´t redo that solo, sounds strange that one.

This isn't great, but It's not terrible. At least it has a concise melody. The end part is kinda cool.

I really hate the lyrics. They are probably the worst lyrics commited tape Stoneswise or other.

Compared to other material they have done it's of little significance.
If it wasn't a rolling Stones track, most would say its rubbish.

listend to it for the first time in years...
well, i'd say its a filler...not terribly bad, but far from being interesting, nice, cool, touching....

maybe this is why i don't like it - i'm a staunch, dyed-in-wool anti-rainbow type. i see a rainbow and i want it painted black....

What a mixed emotions about this song. I am one of the Yay sayers. Ronnies solo is really great and I like the climax towards the end of the last verse

A fine moment on a tragically under appreciated album. Compared to 'Let It Loose' or 'Wild Horses' or any other of the classic Stones ballads, it sounds pretty pitiful, but compared to everything else that came out in 1994 -- not bad at all.

underappreciated by whom? There are several posters here who worship this album and have even named themselves after it. I am not among them...

I hope I am not breaking any message board rules by including people outside this message board who write, review, and pontificate about music. With no doubt I bet we could find a number of people like you and me who love Voodoo Lounge on this board, but probably quite a few who disagree. However, I was referring to music freaks (not just Stone-freaks) who refuse to acknowledge any Stones album is worth listening to beyond SOME GIRLS. You can criticize BTB or BB even, but the music fan in me (not just the Stones fan) would argue for this record's worth with Lester Bangs himself.

The solo is IMo not that bad - it is just so predictable. You just KNOW what is going to come, and ...there it is.
But the lyrics are some of the worst ever.
