All the live album in recent years are a waste of time and money, IMO.

Think I'll slash my wrists now then. Oh Jimbo, how could you do this to us?

Not of mine, because I haven't listened to them or bought them.

"All the live album in recent years are a waste of time and money, IMO."

Why keep buying them then?

There've been times I really have wanted to like the Doors. But I hate so much of the music;and JM on stage was not so good. That organ grinding is the worst.

Aside from the organ 'grinding' I think their music is timeless. Great songs, great vocals, lots of crazy band synergy. It all ended far too soon.

i own boston 1970, pittsburgh 1970 and matrix 1967. i enjoy them all. the sound of the matrix borders on bootleg quality though, which i think thats what the doors mastered it from.

i love all 6 of the doors studio albums though

there's sth in it! I own Boston & Pittsburgh '70, they were both beautifully released, great packaging & all, very good quality of the shows, but they are nothing special. And no Gloria :-)

I love the Aquarius shows especially the rehearsals.

The Dallas State Fair show with LA Woman, Love Her Madly, The Changeling are a taste of what could have been.

I went through a big Doors-phase when I was 16. I bought all the albums, books, posters, t-shirts etc. Then, it suddenly all stopped: I rarely listen to them anymore. Imo, they are band for teenagers and can't hold a listener for good - not me anyway.

I like The Doors.

They are a perfect example of a product of their time. Can't listen to them without contextualizing when they were recorded...especially the Detroit show...May 8 1970, 4 days after Kent State shootings and well within driving distance.

the shoot 'em dead, brainbell jangler!

hard for me to understand how any hardcore fan of the stones' sixties music wouldn't be a big fan of the doors, too. two exponents and expressions of the same influences....

friggin' awsome band ; every bit of those first four or so studio albums are fascinating imo. whooda thunk? a classical pianist on organ; a flamenco guitar player, a jazz drummer; and a drunk drop-out poet would morph into this perfect original rock act...i still gas at the morrison portrait on 'mick's wall' in Performance btw...the second Elektra rock act ever signed (Love was first)...just fiercely brilliant and wonderful albums imo...way wonderful, smart soulful brave and powerful imo.
jest listen all the way thru those first 4 albums and it's obvious imho. much more that a few 'nice songs' an incredible incredible contribution and rock explosion...melodic driving relentlessly edgy ...perfeck

(was it that L.A. studio bass player, Carol something? on bass on a lot of those recordings?) (i know ray played keyboard bass on a lot of stuff live...
...wonder how much of which albums had actual bass guitar?)

elvis' jerry scheff played some bass - but, that i think was on the la woman album, no? i think you can make a good case that they really didn't have any dogs in their catalog....even soft parade has a lotta merit

The Doors is one of my all time favourite rock bands. The only studio LP I don't really care for is 'Waiting for the Sun'.

I think all their LP's except the first has at least one bp credited.

As for the recent string of live releases; I think the quality performancewise differs quite a lot. While I think the Pittsburgh one is a strong effort, the Boston shows are pretty miserable imo. The latest one is pretty dissapointing too.

When I said "some nice songs", I was highly rationalizing, but I think they are a perfect "best of" band. The songs are so strong that they could be put together in every possible way, and make a row of different "Best of" albums. I say this because there are a few weak songs, plus the fact that "Strange Days", "Waiting for the Sun" and "Soft Parade" are a bit too short as LPs.

My ranking:

1) Morrison Hotel
2) The Doors (not easy to rank it as second best, but when pushed...)
3) LA Woman
4) Strange Days
5) The Soft Parade
6) Waiting for the Sun

Peace Frog, fantastic groove, the guitar and organ trading riffs, powerful lyrics. . . the lyrics I recall were two separate songs, poems cobbled together( kind of like the Beatles I have a Feeling was a single song cobbled together form separate Lennon and McCartney compositions).

here's how i'd rank them in terms of quality:

1 self titled
2 l.a. woman
3 the soft parade
4 morrison hotel
5 waiting for the sun
6 strange days

2 self titled
3 waiting for the sun
4 l.a. woman

The Doors are very very overrated. Morrisson couldn't sing for shit and most of the songs are not well written, arranged and played. Mediocre at best, boring most of the time.

I never listen to The Doors nowadays, simply because the songs are so good that they`re played to death.

Is "Woman Is The Devil" among the good ones? Has anybody heard "I Am The Woman In The Window"?
