I believe Philly 11-25-69 was released on a vinyl boot years ago. I got it on cassette in a trade at least 10 yrs ago and then a cdr(no art) after that-same recording but a little better quality. I've heard a lot worse 69 tapes but it aint great. mine is 12 songs= 48 min(just right length for a vinyl boot) Does that sound like yours?

The main source for this show sounds pretty rough and is incomplete (missing the acousting songs and Midnight Rambler IIRC). VGP released this recording coupled with a second (even worse sounding) source to fill in the gaps ("Second Incarnation").

did they do gimme shelter in philly 69?

No. If memory serves me, GS was dropped pretty early on in the tour only to appear at the West Palm Beach and Altamont concerts.

the phoenix version is excellent, similar to altamont imo

There is the "old version" about 48 min, Prodigal son missing & MR cut;
a few years ago an "new version" appeared , clocks about 63 min

I think the old version was released on boot ,...not sure about the new one

As far as I know there are two sources of Philadelphia. One has been released in a couple of boots and you can identify it because many tracks have the start cut off. Titles: Philadelphia 69, Philadelphia special 1969.

VGP Second Incarnation is complete but quality is average. There're some audio fluctuations, check the track Satisfaction at 1,35-1,40 to understand what I mean.

Anyway,Mathijs can you tell us more about the quality of the tape in your hands, maybe posting a short extract?

VGP Second Incarnation has 13 songs. Is that the complete show?

Britney, I believe it lacks "you gotta move" and "i'm free", but I'm not sure those were played. (there is also no "gimme shelter")

well, I meant that the songs listed are complete , i.e.: with no cuts.
I never found information about the exact setlist of Philadelphia 69: YGM and I'm free are missing but these two songs aremissing also in Chicago. I'm free was not played at Detroit. So, who knows?

So I guess this tape is known: 12 songs, 48 minutes, intro cut, MR cut, no acoustic songs.

At first I thought 15(occasionally 16) was the typical setlist except theres evidence that a Boston and Detroit show ran 14 songs? You Gotta Move seems to be the most unlikely song to get cut as it was really part of the "acoustic set" but bootleggers like to cut it alot? Also has anyone else noticed that on the old vinyl releases that JJF was cut alot of the time ant the album would start with Carol? But I guess dropouts seemed to happen during JJF frequently when you listen to the tapes. I've even confused myself now!

To make a bootleg sound better,its a tough job,i´ve been working on them since
1995,first from audiotape to audiotape.
Then when i got to cdr trading around 1998,i started to remaster all my tapes
and cdr´s.
I use Nakamichi tapedeck,to balance channel problems,then i have Harman&Kardon
20channel equalizer...i can pretty much get bootlegs sound better,so to speak.
Some may even sound whole lot better,while others doesn´t get better sound.
To me,it must sound like the band is the same room as i am,if it starts to sound
phony,like most of the computerised bootlegs does,i throw it away,no use for me.
Then,acoustic of the room is VERY important,even if we speak only bootlegs.
Good curtains,then i have my big cd storage shelf on the back wall,and a sofa.
That makes pretty soft sound.
The outcome of your recording also depence what kind of sound system you have,and we all have different ears.
The equipment i use are,besides my "remastering" part
Bang&Olufsen sound system,Beolab 1 active loud speakers,and Beolab 6000 active
loud speakers,then i have,Bang&Olufsen TV,as well Bang&Olufsen sub woofer(850watts),but this i only use for watching movies.
Theres a big difference listen music on active or on passive speakers.
Put it easier,it must sound natural,with dynamics!

That philly-69,,,i think its a horrible recording,or is there a new one out?
What 73 must be boosted?
I could try out as well?

Isn't best to have a sound system that is neutral as possible?
At least that's my experience uplifting a recording that satisfies
everbodies ears.

well, not if a recording clearly lacks something anywhere in the frequency range -boosting that frequency of course improves it a lot. Further, there's some really good mastering sofware that really makes decent recordings come alive.

And ofcourse,you must LIKE doing this,after you´ve learned to use remastering,
you want to get all the recordings sound better...its almost an endless road.
