Great song anyway, but watching and listening to it´s Hampton 81 version is
"a real must".

Band´s on fire with Keith riffing,Ronnie sliding,Charlie and Bill
giving a brilliant backbeat and Mick doing the accoustics with great voice.

The whole thing clocks in 6:30,
and yes we all need someone we can lean on !

Its absolutely brilliant on that show, and throughout that tour. This was also the first tour they'd ever performed it.

Played way too rarely ever since.

wyman's loping basslines are the key to this on that tour...song has never sounded right with darryl

Terrific version indeed. The Hampton-81 DVD is my favourite Rolling Stones movie ever.

...with the possible exception of Phoenix, AZ. It's a 7 minute train wreck. Mick goes to the bridge, the band goes to the chorus. Mick goes to the chorus, the band goes to the bridge. On top of that, it sounds like one of the guitars is out of tune. It actually becomes comical. A great show, though.

yeah -but the opening night version in philly when ronnie was playing in the wrong key and they had to stop the song even "tops" that one....

One of the top three songs of probably the best ever gig by the post-72 Stones. Hampton is just absolutely fabulous, and Shattered, Imagination, Beast of Burden, Waiting on a Friend and let it Bleed are absolute best versions ever.

This was when they still ruled the world as greatest band in the world, instead of biggest & most grossing Las Vegas act....

And whomever thinks Darryl does a fine job clearly listens with his ass!

I agree about Bill on this track. He's one of the first things I noticed when I first got to this part of Hampton. I'm not saying you don't hear him on the studio versoin. But he really stands out on LIB live on the 81 tour.

yes indeed, good stuff, although i just never liked the guitar sound in '81, make sure you check out Ronnie's jesture during "coke and sympathy" at 1:14 . . . ah the 'ol days.

Nowadays mick is scared to say "black girls just want to get @#$%& all night, whatever . . .

P.S. surely miss Bill Wyman

Bobby adds a nice touch on this version.

Wasn't it Ernie Watts who played sax on the 1981 Tour with Bobby joining for the European leg in 1982?

bobby played a handful of times on BS and LIB...including Hampton...Watts joined the fray part way into 81...Lee Allen played a few shows prior to Ernie's arrival....

yeah mostly it was Watts. But Bobby Played on a couple of songs Like Honkey Tonk Women and Brown Sugar.

I like Watts playing, he has a jazz sound. but for this song Keyes' Barrel-House playing is perfect.

i concur...lot of ernie detractors out there - but i think he was a perfect fit for the stones on that tour....

Im some ways I think of 81 as the stones Jazz tour... songs varied in length from night to night, there was lots of improvisation to go around with the guitars, ernie , and Mick's singing style.

A superb version, I would agree, but overlong due to a pointless and unnecessary sax solo.
