JJF, She Was Hot, on SAL

since I have just recently watched Shine A Light, I can't help wanting to post about it, sorry I know its late. The version of JJF is a great one, to me. And, She Was Hot was crazy good, and I felt pride for the Rolling Stones, or proud to be a fan, I mean...hard to explain but those two in particular are extremely well done, its all there. great to listen to with headphones too.

JJF is indeed a great version. fantatsic opener. so much energy that just instantly disappears when the ystart "shattered". they loose all the momentum with that. she was hot i really good too.
but there are other moments that make me blush...just terrible and boring!
just my imagination yaaaaaaaaaawn, sympathy....jesus christ ;-)

definitely agree on those 2, Just my Imagination should have been left out...

and the clip in the extras of Ronnie playing MT's solo on Shine A Light, interesting to see and hear. He plays it close but not exactly, getting the essence, but in his way. Love it.

JJF and SWH are fantastic, I am not impressed by shattered and JMI is horrible, mind the lyrics (a girl for you and a little boy for me), it is not even a stonessong, they should have left it out. All down the line rocks and Champagne is another highlight, along with live with me!

That's what's so odd about how people hear it and what they think because I think JJF is good, not great - better than on LYL and F, that's for sure, and SWH is pedestrian - I bet on the record Keith is the one who starts it, not Ronnie, like on She's So Cold - it wasn't even started correctly - funny how Start Me Up and several other songs are started correctly - and Shattered, well, it's better than the 81 version on Still Life.

And yeah, JMI and SFTD....I've always liked JMI and I'm still on the fence about this particular one but SFTD is...I'll leave it at that.

Never tired of it. The whole groove of SWH during Keith's second solo on SWH is simply wonderful-

I liked SAL when it came out, but then I made a mistake, I listened to Brussels 1973 and Handsome Girls 1978 shortly afterwards, and that reminded me that ... true excellence is the worst enemy of something just "good".

amen to that. and with less and less time to listen to more and more excellent music, i have no interest in settling for and listening to anything less....

Nothing like be compared to yourself. It happens to all the greats. The problem with the Stones is that they've gone on for SOOOO LOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGG. But hell, I loved ABB and Voodoo and Bridges so there you go.

But you miss the whole point of SAL, which is not a reproduction of the 73 band. The set list is similar, but the contents are way different. The band is telling a different story now. A story that I can't get tired listening again and again!

I like the version of JMI it starts off ragged and gets really strong as it goes along..........Some Girls was a real highlight except I missed the black girls line. SFTD is cooked as a live song Woody needs to play the solo. For a change Satifaction was not bad.
Agree with the original post JJF and SWH are awesome.

She Was Hot is awesome. The riffs, the solos, the backup vocals, Mick tearing it up... perfect. Blows the doors off the studio version

<and Shattered, well, it's better than the 81 version on Still Life>

Do u really think so? IMO, the Still Life-version is full of energy and great playing (guitars) SAL-version is ok though, but Mick sings this tune a bit corny these days imo, and the guitars only delivers to a minimum.

This version of Shattered is actually played (except the bridge, which they haven't done right since 1994). It's closer to the 1994 lopey version than anything, which I thought was excellent - it had motherfucking SWAGGER! The 81 version is on crack cocaine and it could be almost ANY song being played fast - it's not unique, that little digging guitar line Keith does? It has no swagger to it.

On this one it does. And Mick does a better delivery here than on the 81 version - he was just calling down the valley on that tour. I know he honked through his nose on a lot of the songs for the Bang tour but here he sounds pretty good.
