Only speculation, of course, but I think they already have it in the can.

Well, the retailers can't be shifting much Stones product. I was in a large HMV store just before Christmas and the only Stones CD on the shelves was SAL.
I was suprised they still had their own "section".
I didn't check the DVD stocks...the place was heaving with buyers. No sign of a recession!

There was a rumor some months ago that Keith had been in a studio with Blondie Chaplin and also around that same period of time, Dave Stewart's website stated for a short while that he was working again with Mick Jagger.
With the Stones having somewhat "shared" a touring crew with U2, whose album is due for release in spring of next year with a tour to follow, it seems rather likely that these recordings were for non-band projects to maybe appear next year.

Of course, I'd love to hear an album's worth of new songs, too, but if they all go solo next year, that's fine with me, too. I just don't have too high hopes for Ron Wood's planned Faces comeback album, because their singer Rod Stewart is still under contract with Clive Davis' J Records label and they seem to have a rather restrictive A&R department that only lets out albums catering to a lowest common denominator taste - such that sound rather slick and watered down, with all edges polished away.

That's because HMV (at least in London) is a tourst trap. Who else would pay their over inflated prices when you can buy the same product for a fraction of the cost on line? So, not a true indcator of recession.

Well, this explain the horrible catalog sales by the Stones this year. Excluding SAL (which "saved" the year) I think that even Ringo Starr sold more albums this year.

Must have been done by Pro Tools then, unless they recorded it in the afternoon before one of those film premieres they attended, as thats the only occasions theyve been all together in the last 15 months

I think these guys get around pretty well without the general public keeping an eye on their every move.
Sure, we hear the occasional report of a "Stones sighting," but I don't think it's inconceivable that they could have gotten together long enough, perhaps over several short occasions, to put enough together for a record.
I'm not in the music industry, so perhaps I don't fully know what "in the can" defines.
I'm thinking it is possible for the Stones to have enough recorded material ready to go for packaging, or at least ready for final production.

Does this seem like an impossibility?
