What are some of the notable lyric changes that Mick makes during live performances of songs?

The third verse in HTW...

Whatever hoof comes out during the bridge in IORR...

Chinese boots in CYHMK...

She looked about fifty in The Spider And The Fly from Stripped...well, that's not exactly live now is it. I guess it is...in the studio.

Can't really think of any more.

Oh - Nuts! instead of Crazy! during Miss You.

There was another Star Star change circa '97 -- something about Brad Pitt. Was it "Gwyneth Paltrow got mad at you for giving it to Brad Pitt"? I'm not making this up.

Beast Of Burden - 81/82 tour

"I'll never be your beast of burden" changed to "I don't want no beast of burden" plus added some verses at the end

Tumbling Dice
Didn't he change verse "Women think I'm tasty" to "People think I'm crazy" sometimes?

Stray Cat Blues
"I can see that you're 15 years old"
During 69 tour the age was lowered to 13 while during Licks Tour it was raised to 16.

Nowadays Mick also drops some verses in Some Girls and Sympathy.

And what was about Rip This Joint? I remember he sung once about Hillary Clinton giving him blowjob, didn't he? When and where was it?

In '94 in New Orleans, Mick sings "to live in this dump you must be tough, tough....."

And of course in the rap part of Anybody Seen My Baby the line:

We came to rock for everybody all like this

the word "everybody" was replaced with the name of the place they were currently performing at.

I think Keith has bene singing "Never kept your daughter past sunset" for years now--can't be sure whe it comes to Keith, though...

As for Franzk's Stray Cat comment:

Stray Cat Blues
"I can see that you're 15 years old"
During 69 tour the age was lowered to 13 while during Licks Tour it was raised to 16.

I was at Roseland and Mick said "19 years old" but maybe he varied it throughout that tour.

And I'd love to Rock and Roll with you till dawn
(from Loving Cup Rotterdam 2003 instead of spill the beans)

And the blue light was my blues, and the red light was my mind
(from Love in vain Get Yer Ya Ya's Out, blues instead of baby)

Were they in N'Orleans when they sang that? Cos that's the place where 'they all axed for you'! I'm sure Edith will confirm this.

>> Were they in N'Orleans when they sang that? <<

maybe he sang it that way in NOLA, but he sings it that way in the LA Forum footage too.

during the Bang tour he frequently started SftD with "let me please" instead of "please allow me",
and of course he real often leaves out the Kennedys line.
and in Brown Sugar i think he's sung "hear him whip the women" maybe twice in the song's entire career,
along with varying the gender of the young um person who tastes so good.

and so on. he makes lots of little changes, just to see who's paying attention :E

a verse addes to back of my hand during the licks tour:
something like this:
There's a woman with her hands out
Some children drawing lines in the sand
Someone offered to tell my fortune
But I van read it like the back of my hand

"to live in this dump you must be tough, tough....."

I forgot about that one! But I do remember it, having been at the show, etc...and I have that boot.

Does I don't want no...versus I'll never be....does that constitute an actual change? I dunno.

I think it's more about the subject matter at hand than some loose useage of correct language...

It may be true that Mick changes this rather controversial verse depending on the place in order to be politically correct. As far as I remember in Paris (on Four Flicks) he sings 16 years old. Perhaps he raised the age to 19 for more conservative US audience.

These really shows the difference between the RS of 1969 & the RS of today...or is it just the audiences who've changed? I always loved that "13 years old" line! : )

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned 'Let's Spend Some Time Together' (Ed Sullivan Show), & I also seem to recall Mick mentioning Toronto during 'It's Only Rock & Roll' on 'Love You Live'.

Another pretty obvious one is 'It's Alright' (1964-1965) which later changed to 'I'm Alright' (1966).

Starting in 72 and onward(pretty much) Mick sings in "Brown Sugar"--Just like a black boy or young boy should instead of--black girl. I'm not homophobic but it is very annoying as it doesnt fit with the rest the lyrics IMO.

I love this topic...

Beast of Burden
In earlier days Mick would sometimes start Beast of Burden with either "I don't need no beast of burden" or "I don't want no beast of burden" instead of "I'll never be...."

Wild Horses
"Let's do some living, after love dies" (instead of 'after well die')

Out of Control - "Where the deep waters flow" instead of "where the dark waters flow".

Here's a big one - Tumbling Dice.
The first line is "Women think I'm tasty, but they're always tryin' to waste me" is almost never sung live. Instead it's usually "People think I'm crazy, always tryin' to break me".
Also in the same song - and this one's very clever, I think....

... Ever since he had the diamond put into his tooth, he sings "I don't need two jewels in my frown" instead of "I don't need no jewels in my crown".
