Voodoo Lounge Giants Stadium VHS Tape
Posted by: Father Ted ()
Date: December 17, 2008 11:43

I recently bought this tape off eBay Uk for a few quid.

Now, I want to transfer it to DVD. If I use a standard home VHS/DVD recorder combo, will I be able to record the tape onto a disc?

Thanks
FT

Why wouldn't you ?

I don't think there was any copy-protection on this one...

Thanks everyone, good to know it should transfer to DVD!

I'm looking forward to watching it. My official Voodoo Lounge VHS tape should be transferred too but that probably has copy protection on it. Shame it hasn't been rereleased on DVD.

i have a question to the DVDs. are they worth buying? i have it on VHS from the concert in hockenheim 1995 (my first concert, i was 7 years old). here in the local store (karstadt, a big warehouse here in germany) they sell bootleg DVDs. but some of them have bad quality although they're available in better quality. there is a bootleg of the giants stadium show, the cover is clearly from the bigger bang tour. does anydbody knwo how the quality is? is it worth buying when you already have the VHS?

Is this the show where Keith changes guitars during the opening number Not Fade Away? Seems like his guitar was in the wrong tuning, or broken string or something?

The Official Voodoo release is/was officially released on DVD...although
it might be out of print now. You can find it on ebay.

That's a different show. There were *two* official releases from that tour -- this one's an edit of the PPV from Miami; the Giant Stadiums gig was never released on DVD.

Cool. Well - would you at least please put Shattered on youtube? That particular performance of Shattered is excellent!

And besides, I've never seen that live video.

Thanks for the ebay link SNC. Didn't realise VL had been given an official DVD release. I'll see what the quality is like on my homemade VHS transfer first.

Cheers mate

If I had editing software, I'd be happy to upload Shattered onto Youtube. I'll stick on a torrent somewhere too. Stay tuned...

Do you want a copy of the whole show? I'd be happy to send you a disc, providing my transfer works.

That would be so cool! Especially since that PPV Voodoo show is next to impossible to find! And of course, they didn't do Shattered at that show.

The one with Shattered is the New Jersey show, Giants Stadium. I dunno - I though the Whoopi PPV was the 'official' Voodoo DVD since that's what was released. For what, 5 days? I've NEVER seen it in a store!

The Voodoo Lounge VHS that was released in the UK was filmed, if memory serves, in Miami. I think it does have Whoopi Goldberg introducing the show.

The New Jersey show was apparently sold as a souvenir at the concerts. A very nice touch!

I don't think there are different versions but the 3 we all know :
1. Voodoo Lounge Home video, same as the VHS release : Miami
2. Voodoo Lounge Tour souvenir (VHS only): New Jersey
3. Voodoo Lounge Laserdisc : Tokyo (bootleg DVD)

How could the Region 1 DVD of the home video be different ?

Thanks for the info !
Bad choice for the artwork...

Masterplan is a label I already saw. I have a Queen DVD from this label.

I wouldn't call this an official release, but a "paralel release"
You propably have a MP logo on the screen during the whole concert.
Still, how's the picture and sound ?
I would buy it if it's any good

I wonder why there are so many unauthorized DVDs available again in normal shops. Just like with the CDs back in the early nineties. Strange. Are there no copyright laws or why can they put that out?

Do you mean "unauthorized" as in bootleg or as in not approved by the band?

No British retailer, afaik, sells bootlegs. It would mean opening supply channels with people who may, bottom line, be criminals in most jurisdictions.

If its the second defintion then presumably not all footage of a band is actually owned by them.

I'm pretty sure that all these DVD they sell here are DVDR copies. I have some of them as the original factory pressed version and they look different, especially the label printing. For example the label of my Melbourne 2006 has no big white border around, so this is very suspicious. Some of the factory pressed ones are also digipaks while these here are all packed in plastic boxes. Looks very much like a rip-off!
