Well, they were expected to play concerts for the ABB tour 2005-2007 already but what they actually offered was something slightly different. So it would be quite a surprise for me (a nice one, for that) if they ever returned to the music again.

I think that they (unfortunatly) can't deliver it anymore to do a BIG tour like they did in the past. Maybe only a small tour in England for their 50th anniversery (just like Cliff and The Shadows)......

Latest news I heard was: a new record in 2009, a tour in 2010.

I think Käthe means that they didnt perform so
astonishingly many songs from the ABB album.

Where did ya get those news, mama?

Methinks we speculate too much!
I can't imagine Mick devotes much thought to the "when..." questions.
One wonders if the bosses at Universal have any expectations of tours or are content for Mick and Keith just to do a bit of PR at the time of the repackaging of their back catalogue.
But that's just me.....speculating.

the biggest threat to the band's short term future as far as a live act goes is probably now the global economy, more so than the band members' increasing frailty.

If any acts are going to be affected by the current climate, it'll be those who are charging credit card-busting prices for tickets. More and more people are simply going to be increasingly reluctant to stick $1000 for a couple of tickets on a credit card. If the Stones can't realise that, then they've really lost the plot.

Unless they drastically change the modus operandi that has been the norm over the last decade or so, they may just think it's not worth their while. Will their egoes allow them to downscale and drop their guarantees? However, a new record contract is the best sign for a chance of future concert activity.

the economy being what it is, and with questions arising over how the health of some band members will affect their ability to perform for much longer suggests to me that any future touring will be in shorter bursts and confined almost exclusively to major markets. The sheer length of the last tour plus the number of 'out of the way' places they went to struck me at the time as a farewell to many of those places.

they'll wait until they have a new record to 'promote' (no sniggering, please!) AND until the world economic situation shows SOME kind of recovery. I therefore dont expect a new album or a new tour by the Stones until at least mid-2010.

As long as New York pays one pitcher 160 million to play in 20 to 25 games for 7 years, venues in top cities just proved that there is money to be spent and eager eyes like Cohl's will undoubtely take notice of such luxuries.

The reality is this, Cohl will just eliminate venues that cannot put out the big bucks therefore making the Stones into a high price luxury item. So small to mid sized cities will get shunned because the Stones have become music monarchy.

I just hope that Cohl had investments in the Bernard Madoff ponzi schemes.
