Australia & New Zealand 1995 recordings

by Jaime Castaneda

Lounging In Melbourne HR 6058/59. Melbourne Australia 27/3/95. First show of the Australian leg of the VL tour. Audience DAT Recording. Packaging is a regular slim jewel case. The front and back pictures are similiar to the artwork on the Australian promo posters for the tour. Discs are grey with that sweet red tounge on them! The 2CD is complete, and includes the acoustic versions of Angie and Sweet Virginia.

When Mick introduces Satisfaction he says : "Its been 22 years since we came to Australia ..... and we're gonna do one we probably did then". Then the guitar guys start some awesome work!! Sound is good but not quite as good as Voodoo Raindance. As a comparison I prefer the LIM sound over First Night Stand (TSP 180). Track 1 on cd 1 starts at NOT FADE AWAY .. it doesnt have the intro bongo drums and the cobra going off. Track 1 starts approx when charlie kicks in. This show (27/3/95) is also available on 'Keef Sings Slipping Away' from Weeping Goat.Overall a great CD !

Voodoo RainDance: RH016/017. Melbourne australia 28/3/95. Recommended! Ltd edition of 650 copies apparently some copies skip a bit - (Basement news). This one is complete, and includes the songs Beast of Burden, Love in Vain and Midnight Rambler. Also, it includes the following bonus tracks from 27/3/95: live with me, angie, sweet virginia, rock n a hard place. love is strong. Excellent sound audience recording. Has an excellent booklet of news articles from Melbourne 95 !!

Sydney 1/4/95 + 2/4/95. No cds, an incomplete but ok audience recording of 1/4/95 + an average 2/4/95 audience recording is available on tape

Your Not Sugar Im Not Sugar. Vinyl Gang VGP. Adelaide 5/4/95. 5th show of the Australian leg of the VL tour. Audience DAT Recording. Packaging is a plain white cardboard sleeve the same size as those special edition releases of the stones albums, the front is just white with ROLLING STONES "Your not sugar, Im not Sugar" the back has a voodoo man picture with the track list. the discs are individually packaged in black envelopes in side the sleeve. Discs are black with Adelaide 1995 written on them.

This recording is incomplete (see below), wbile it includes the not so common songs Just my Imagination and Far Away Eyes, plus bonus interviews (Mick and Keith interview from 2-day FM March 1995, Keith Interview from JJJ FM November 1995)

Start Me Up is incomplete (missingin beginning). This Release was a bit of a disappointment. The sound is great and all, no problems there. This is probably the best audience recording of Australia so far (I havent heard Perth yet). What was disappointing is that its not complete. The tracks I know that are missing are: Jumping Jack Flash/Street Fighting Man/Sympathy for the Devil/Monkey Man.

There are 2 different tapes circulating of this show its a pity a (more) complete one wasn't used. This show is unique to the other Australian ones since they played Faraway Eyes and My Imagination, both these tracks are here in Excellent Audience quality. A comparision to First Night Stand (TSP-180). This CD of Adelaide kicks its ass sound wise (I've only skimmed through it so far) Also the interviews are taped straight off radio and sound ok too.

The title of the CD is a Jagger quote from the show:

"We got a bit of sweeping up to do cause of the rain. I hope your not getting too wet up there, I think its just a few showers you know.... and YOUR NOT SUGAR AND IM NOT SUGAR so your not going to melt. The next one we're gonna do is ah.. new song for ya its called You Got Me Rocking .. all right ch ... I was a butcher .."

Perth 8/4/95. There is an audience DAT tape available of this show in good quality i believe, and it is rumoured to appear on a Japanese cd soon possibly as STONED IN PERTH.

Brisbane 12/4/95. There is only 1 very bad audience recording Iknow of from this show. Not sure if it is complete.

They're On Their Way! Wizardo Records VGP-066. Auckland 16/4/95. First of the two New Zealand VL shows. Packaging is a regular slim jewel case. The front cover is the tour billboard poster "they're on their way" the back cover is a picture of the stage/fireworks with the track list. Discs are black with Auckland 1995 written on them.

The 2CD is complete and includes Sweet Virginia and Heartbreaker. Very good/excellent Audience DAT recording I enjoy it. The sound is similiar quality to Holland 1995 but not quite as good. Recommended !!

Auckland - New Zealand 16/4/95. No CDs I believe, there are some tapes.
